Tom Hardy’s ‘Warrior,’ ‘Lawless,’ and ‘Locke’ Now Streaming Free—Must Watch!

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary versatility of Tom Hardy, an actor who, though he may not always be in the limelight of action movies, leaves an indelible impact whenever he graces our screens. This Academy Award-nominated talent, renowned for his powerful performances in masterpieces like “The Revenant,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and blockbusters such as “Venom,” consistently demonstrates his knack for creating captivating and intricately layered characters, whether they be heroes or villains. His latest offering, the gripping action thriller “Havoc” on Netflix, is yet another testament to his penchant for portraying unpredictable and emotionally complex characters.

Three of Hardy’s top films, “Warrior”, “Lawless”, and “Locke”, are now accessible for streaming. Although several of his films can be found on various streaming platforms, specifically for the movies mentioned above, they have been added to Tubi‘s collection. This means you can watch them at no cost, but with a few occasional advertisements.

‘Warrior’ (2011) — Directed by Gavin O’Connor

Two brothers step into the cage for one final, ultimate confrontation in a world where brotherly love and the fight to survive meet head-on.

In a turn of events, the youngest offspring of a retired boxer, who once battled alcoholism, comes back to his old residence. There, he undergoes training by his father in preparation for a mixed martial arts competition. This journey takes our protagonist towards an inevitable confrontation with his long-estranged elder brother.

Under the direction of Gavin O’Connor, “Warrior” is a top-notch sports drama that you haven’t had the chance to watch yet. The movie features impressive performances by Tom Hardy, along with Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Morrison, and Nick Nolte, who was even nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his role as Paddy. Despite garnering a strong 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this film didn’t perform well financially back then, earning just $23.3 million against a production budget of $25 million.

‘Lawless’ (2012) — Directed by John Hillcoat

In the Western genre, Hardy takes on the role of Forrest Bondurant, one of three brothers who run a prosperous bootlegging operation during Prohibition. However, Special Deputy Charlie Rakes becomes aware that these Bondurant siblings – specifically Forrest, Howard, and Jack – are not willing to share their profits with him. In response, Rakes resorts to any means necessary, including tracking them down, in order to put an end to their business as described in the movie’s plot summary.

In the heart of Virginia’s Depression-era Franklin County, a group of three brothers engaged in moonshine trading find themselves under pressure from a newly appointed special deputy and other officials, who seek to claim a portion of their earnings.

The movie “Lawless” was crafted by Nick Cave (from the band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) and John Hillcoat, with its storyline inspired by the book “The Wettest County in the World” written by Matt Bondurant, who is the grandson of one of the key characters. This film features Tom Hardy alongside Jessica Chastain, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Dane DeHaan, and Mia Wasikowska.

Lawless was met with a prolonged 10-minute standing ovation at Cannes and received generally favorable reviews from critics upon its official premiere. On Rotten Tomatoes, it garnered a score of 66%. The movie earned over $54 million during its run, surpassing its production budget of $26 million.

‘Locke’ (2013) — Directed by Steven Knight

In a narrative twist, the character named Locke embarks on a journey from Birmingham to London, not for any ordinary reason, but to be present at the birth of his child with Bethan. It’s a complicated situation because Locke has been unfaithful to his wife, Katrina, and this baby represents a secret he’s been harboring. However, he intends to take on the role of fatherhood. During this two-hour drive, faced with the weighty decision to confess his infidelity to Katrina and potentially lose his job, Locke encounters several challenges that could alter the trajectory of his life significantly.

As a cinephile, I can tell you that this film is one of three masterpieces penned by the illustrious screenwriter Steven Knight, renowned for his work in movies such as “Dirty Pretty Things,” “Eastern Promises,” “Spencer,” and “Maria.” This captivating production unfolds within a singular setting, with Hardy portraying the sole on-screen presence, apart from voices heard over phone conversations. Notable names like Olivia Colman, Ruth Wilson, Tom Holland, and Ben Daniels lend their voices to the supporting characters in this unique and immersive cinematic experience.

Among Hardy’s most acclaimed films is “Locke,” which boasts a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassed only by blockbusters like “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Dunkirk.” Despite its limited theatrical release (distributed in the U.S. by A24), it generated significant earnings from home media sales. Despite appearing to be a straightforward film, Hardy’s performance is deeply engaging. Given its basic premise, one might assume that the actor has limited opportunities to display his dramatic prowess. However, Hardy’s solo performance in “Locke” leaves a lasting impression on viewers. This film is considered one of Hardy’s most significant works.
