In the upcoming action-thriller movie “Havoc,” streaming exclusively on Netflix this coming spring, it’s Tom Hardy who takes center stage. The director for this project is none other than Gareth Evans.
During a recent Netflix event, Jessie Mei Li, one of Hardy’s fellow actors, shared her experiences working alongside him. She disclosed that some of his improvisations on set were remarkably unforeseeable.
In a recent interview, the lead actor from Shadow and Bone commented: “Indeed, some of Tom’s improvisations were… frankly, too colorful for repeated speech! However, it was truly enjoyable. I believe that working with Tom and Gareth was delightful because it was so flexible and allowed us to explore new ideas.
Tom’s acting is always full of surprises, which I truly appreciate as it made the experience thrilling. Consequently, we discovered numerous elements, many of them on-the-spot, making it an enjoyable process. Overall, it was quite an entertaining journey.

In the aftermath of a botched drug deal, a hard-boiled detective embarks on a perilous journey through the underbelly of crime to save a politican’s long-lost son. As he delves deeper into the mystery, he uncovers layers of corruption and conspiracy that threaten his city.
During a Q&A session, Evans, recognized primarily for his work on The Raid series and Gangs of London, shared insights about Havoc. He described it as an affectionate tribute to the heroic bloodshed genre – the action films produced in Hong Kong during the 1980s and 1990s.
He went on to say: “All the elements I’ve borrowed from John Woo and Ringo Lam throughout my career are present here. It’s also a gritty, crime-filled cop drama that unfolds over two nights before Christmas. However, it’s not your typical holiday movie, as you might anticipate.
The story revolves around Tom Hardy’s character, Walker. He’s a police officer with a questionable past, involved in activities that are not entirely lawful. His mission is to locate the missing son of a mayoral candidate, who has been caught up in a drug raid incident gone awry and a murder in Chinatown. The challenge lies in finding him before the honest cops apprehend him or the Chinese mafia carries out their threat.
