Tom Sandoval’s Fate on America’s Got Talent Revealed After Audition

Warning: This story contains spoilers from the June 24 episode of America’s Got Talent.

Tom Sandoval is putting his musical chops to the test on America’s Got Talent.

Previously from Vanderpump Rules, he stepped onto the stage with his band, Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras, to deliver a version of A-ha’s 1985 hit “Take on Me” during a surprising audition on the June 24th episode. This performance garnered him positive feedback from judges Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, Howie Mandel, and Mel B.

The former Spice Girl exclaimed, ‘You brought a smile to my face!’ Your energy was contagious and positive. Moreover, your performance is one of my favorite songs, and it seemed as if everyone was truly enjoying themselves.

After that, Sofia praised the 42-year-old reality star, with Tom Schwartz and girlfriend Victoria Lee Robinson in the audience cheering him on, for looking fantastic during his act. Meanwhile, Howie referred to him as an entertainer who puts on quite a show.

“He really takes this seriously,” the comedian noted. “For me, it was great.”

Regarding Simon, his comments leaned slightly towards criticism, yet he still found it appropriate to give praise to the entire group.

Tom, I want to be straightforward with you,” he started. “Your vocals weren’t impressive, but not everyone appearing on this show aims for a record deal. Often, it’s more about staying authentic to your own identity.

And for that, Tom and his band were put through to the next round of the competition.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Terry Crews backstage following the performance, saying it was incredibly meaningful to him to see so many people from diverse backgrounds, joyful and supportive of them.

Before the audition, Tom shared with the panel about his band’s significance to him during the 2023 cheating scandal he was embroiled in, particularly involving ex-partners Ariana Madix and Raquel Leviss. He mentioned that he had been feeling extremely low, almost at a bottom point.

He confided that his life seemed empty, but the band was the sole source of motivation that kept him moving forward.

In the year 2023, during his appearance on season 10 of ‘The Masked Singer’, Tom showcased his powerful singing abilities, concealing his true identity behind the mask of The Diver. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it far and was eliminated after only two episodes.

On Tuesdays at 8 p.m., you can catch America’s Got Talent on NBC. If you’re curious about what happens backstage, stay tuned for more insights!

In reality, contestants have quite a journey ahead before they step up for their judging session in season 20. They are evaluated by judges such as Howie Mandel, Mel B, Sofía Vergara, and Simon Cowell. To reach this point, potential participants can sign up for open call auditions, which may be virtual to maximize accessibility. If the casting team and producers find someone promising, they move forward to the next round with the executive producers. After approval, the act progresses to a live audition in front of the judges, and the rest unfolds from there. Prospective candidates can choose between attending an in-person or virtual open call, or submitting a video audition instead.

Make sure you’ve got your timers ready! As per the audition instructions, participants are given approximately 90 seconds to display their talents during the open auditions. However, it’s important to keep in mind that producers hold the power to adjust the audition durations if necessary.

Absolutely, there are several items that aren’t permitted in the audition process. For one, open flames and special rigging are a no-go at open call auditions. If your act involves an animal, you’ll need to submit an Animal Information Form and have the animal’s vaccination records handy. Other restricted items include coolers, except for medical reasons, fireworks, weapons, sharp tools, mace/pepper spray, illegal substances, alcohol, and props using fire or pyrotechnics.

After clearing the initial rounds in shows like America’s Got Talent, contestants will be granted travel assistance if they need to go far for the judges’ round. This could be a flight ticket, bus pass, train ticket, or even gas money for those living nearby. Additionally, they will be offered hotel lodging and a daily stipend for meals or other costs during their stay.

According to the rules of America’s Got Talent auditions, the show doesn’t offer hair and makeup assistance for contestants during the judges’ round. Instead, competitors should be prepared and look their best in front of the cameras. However, these services are available for future rounds. During season 19, AGT’s makeup artist Tonia Green shared on Instagram that they worked with numerous contestants on hair and makeup.

During rehearsals, contestants can practice their acts. But there’s more to the show that they prepare for as well.

Sofie Dossi, a former contestant on America’s Got Talent, explained in a 2024 YouTube video that all contestants must do a results rehearsal. This is so everyone knows their placement if eliminated or if they progress, and for the crew to adjust lighting and camera angles.

The winning prize on America’s Got Talent is a million dollars, but the champion doesn’t get the entire sum immediately. Instead, they can either receive it as an annuity spread out over 40 years or take the present value of that annuity amount right away. If they opt for the annuity payments, each year they would receive approximately $25,000 (before taxes) over four decades.
