Tomb Raider TV Series Casts Sophie Turner as Lara Croft

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for the iconic Lara Croft and her high-octane adventures, I must say, I am beyond thrilled to hear that Sophie Turner has been tapped to play our favorite tomb raider in Amazon’s upcoming series! With her exceptional acting chops demonstrated in Game of Thrones and X-Men films, she undeniably fits the bill.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share the news about Amazon’s upcoming “Tomb Raider” TV series! The talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge is at the helm, and we now have our Lara Croft – the exceptional Sophie Turner. Just a few weeks ago, it was whispered that Turner was among several contenders for the coveted role of Tomb Raider in this new project. It appears that the selection process has concluded, and Turner has emerged victorious!

According to Deadline’s report, it appears that Turner is being considered for the role of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Although the deal isn’t finalized yet, as Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed the news, having Turner linked to the project may expedite its development process.

Turner has been accustomed to handling significant projects, given her prominent roles as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones and Jean Grey in the X-Men movies. She is now set to become the third actress to portray Lara Croft in a live-action setting, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie, who played Croft in two films including Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, and Alicia Vikander, who took on the role in the 2018 reboot of Tomb Raider. Unfortunately, a sequel for Vikander’s reboot was planned but eventually shelved.

Currently, the exact release date for the upcoming Tomb Raider series on Prime Video hasn’t been revealed yet. Since it was only given the go-ahead approximately six months ago, updates have been scarce from those involved in the project. However, with Turner set to portray Lara Croft, it suggests that filming might start as early as 2025. If this is accurate, a premiere on Prime Video around 2026 seems probable.

In terms of gaming development, Crystal Dynamics is currently engaged in creating a fresh Tomb Raider game. At this point, specifics about the project are scarce, but when it eventually launches, it will mark the debut of a new installment within the series since 2018’s “Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
