Tombstone’s 4K Steelbook: A Must-Have Selling Out Everywhere

It appears we’re dealing with the highly anticipated Steelbook launch of 2025 – Disney’s first-ever 4K Ultra HD release of “Tombstone”, set for April 22nd. The long-awaited restoration of this iconic 1993 Western has already generated excitement among film enthusiasts and collectors of physical media. However, the unprecedented demand for the upcoming Steelbook has left retailers running out of stock over two weeks before its release, indicating a strong interest in this item.

Currently, Amazon has no stock (though they may receive more at any moment), and Walmart’s pre-orders are dwindling. If you wish to acquire the magnificent “Tombstone” 4K Steelbook, act swiftly. Thanks to our friends at Disney, we were fortunate enough to receive an early copy of the Tombstone Steelbook in advance. Consequently, we’re providing you with a first-hand peek at its release, giving you a clear idea of what it entails (as opposed to relying solely on promotional images). Please note that this isn’t a critique of the Tombstone 4K version itself; our review will be forthcoming. Instead, this is an in-depth examination of the Steelbook packaging.

The primary actors adorn the front page of “Tombstone“, showcased in a piece of artwork that primarily highlights Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer. While Val Kilmer’s portrayal of Doc Holliday is undeniably the most striking aspect of the movie, it also represents one of his finest performances throughout his distinguished acting career.

It’s quite possible that the surge in demand for the 4K release of “Tombstone” is due to Kevin Costner’s recent passing. Known for his endearing portrayal, Costner passed away on April 2nd after a long fight against cancer. Many fans have been eager to witness his finest work in 4K for the first time, which has likely placed “Tombstone” high on their must-watch lists.

On the rear cover of the Steelbook edition of Tombstone, there’s an illustration of the U.S. Marshal badge donned by the movie characters. As you open the case, you’ll find a wide-angled shot of the four main actors (Russell, Kilmer, Bill Paxton, Sam Elliott) spread out on the inside cover.

Besides the 4K remastering, the Tombstone 4K Steelbook package also includes some additional special features (all of which were released earlier). The Blu-ray disc contains three “Behind the Scenes” documentaries, along with director George P. Cosmatos’ original storyboards for the O.K. Corral sequence.

The Tombstone Steelbook stands out as one of the top and highly sought-after 4K studio releases of 2025 thus far, thanks to Disney’s impressive effort. Here’s hoping that the restoration’s quality lives up to the beauty of its captivating cover design.
