As a longtime fan who’s witnessed Toni Storm‘s meteoric rise in AEW, I can say it’s akin to finding a missing puzzle piece when she made that grand return on Dynamite! The real Timeless Toni Storm is back, and boy, does she look fabulous!
At AEW’s Winter is Coming event, some eagerly awaited confrontations took place, including one between previous close friends-turned-adversaries Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa. Their friendship had been instrumental in May’s narrative with Toni Storm, a bond she eventually broke and defeated to claim the AEW World Women’s Championship at All In. Since then, Storm has been absent from AEW, but that changed dramatically tonight during Dynamite. However, upon her return, it wasn’t the familiar Timeless Toni Storm who appeared; instead, the former Champion unveiled an entirely new image when she eventually emerged.
In their contest, it was clear that there was a deep-seated animosity between May and Shirakawa. Shirakawa would take revenge on her ex-friend by deliberately attacking her legs and knees, ramming them hard into the ring post multiple times. She would then inflict further injury upon the post before releasing May.
In the heart of the ring, the two combatants clashed with fierce blows, neither managing to significantly outdo the other. However, May managed to regain control with a strong knee strike, but Shirakawa persisted and carried on fighting. Regrettably for May, a headbutt rendered Shirakawa momentarily dazed, just enough time for May to launch a Storm Zero and secure the victory.

May’s celebration didn’t last long as the crowd erupted upon seeing Toni Storm back on AEW TV. However, it wasn’t the same Toni Storm fans knew from losing her Championship at All In, or the one who appeared in multiple matches in Stardom that immediately caught everyone’s attention.
In contrast, it was the initial version of Storm that AEW fans first witnessed in 2022. This particular Storm version is also the one Mariah May emulated during their original partnership, as May frequently donned some of Storm’s past ensembles during their collaborative stint. However, since the introduction of the Timeless look, Storm had refrained from revisiting any of her previous styles. Yet, it seems that this trend has now been broken, leaving fans quite surprised.
In the mix was Thunder Rosa, who had a “What the Freak!” sign among the spectators. Even May found herself taken aback, while the crowd was indeed startled by Storm’s appearance, fans were thrilled to have her back in AEW, particularly since she had hinted at retiring from professional wrestling before this.
As a diehard fan, I’d say it was only a matter of time before Toni Storm graced AEW again, following her brief appearances in Stardom. While everyone anticipated her comeback, they didn’t expect to see her in any guise other than the iconic Timeless Toni Storm persona she had cultivated over the past year. Now, we can only speculate about what lies ahead for Toni and Mariah May, and whether their story includes the upcoming Worlds End pay-per-view.
