Tony Awards 2025 Shock: Denzel Washington, Kieran Culkin Snubbed in Jaw-Dropping Nominations

The curtain has gone up on this year’s Tony Award nominations.

Meanwhile, some stars are basking in their nomination glory – like Nicole Scherzinger from Sunset Boulevard, George Clooney from Good Night, and Good Luck, and Sadie Sink from John Proctor is the Villain – there’s a group of other stars and shows who haven’t received a nomination this time around.

It seems that Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, well-known actors, were notably absent from the list of nominees for their performances in the adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Othello”. Interestingly, the entire production failed to secure any nominations for the Tonys.

In the same vein, Redwood represented a significant comeback to Broadway for seasoned performer Idina Menzel, who is renowned for her role as Elphaba in Wicked. However, neither Menzel nor the musical itself received nominations during that period.

Unfortunately, another setback for Kieran Culkin as his performance in ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ has garnered praise but failed to secure a nomination. If he had been nominated, the 42-year-old actor would have been one step closer to achieving what is known as the Triple Crown of acting – winning a Tony Award, an Emmy Award, and an Academy Award.

If only I could’ve witnessed Kieran clinching the Triple Crown at the Tonys, following his Oscar win for his exceptional performance in “A Real Pain,” within merely 18 months! Alas, it seems that this year, he won’t be gracing the nominees list. However, I can’t help but cheer on my fellow “Succession” alum, the incredible Sarah Snook, who has been honored with a nomination for her work in “The Picture of Dorian Gray.

However, along with the disappointments, there are also delightful shocks. Noteworthy among these unexpected nominations are the comeback of “Our Town”, Fina Strazza from “John Proctor is The Villain”, Gracie Lawrence of Lawrence band for her performance in the Bobby Darin musical “Just in Time” and James Monroe Iglehart in “Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical”.

Although the play’s revival was nominated for Best Play Revival, neither of its main actors received acting nominations.

Although Othello and Glengarry Glen Ross weren’t nominated for the Best Revival of a Play category, Our Town managed to secure a nomination. However, given the star-studded cast that includes Jim Parsons, Zoey Deutch, Katie Holmes, and Richard Thomas, it comes as no surprise at all.

The fact that the actor from “Succession” was not nominated eliminates his chance of earning an Acting Triple Crown for the first time.

The much-talked-about revival was completely excluded from this year’s Tony Award nominations.

Although they may not have initially caught the attention of Tony Award critics, it’s certainly pleasing news that the three talented actors are now nominated this year, thanks to their outstanding performances.

Despite signifying a triumphant comeback to the Broadway stage for Idina Menzel, following an absence of nearly 10 years, her latest production “Redwood” failed to secure a nomination.

Although she received praise for her role in the robotical musical with Darren Criss, Helen unfortunately did not make it to the list of nominated actresses.
