Following Activision’s announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, fans have pondered whether Bam Margera, a previous star from Jackass, will make an appearance. Given his past roles in both games, there was some speculation that Margera’s personal and legal troubles over the years may have resulted in his exclusion from the remasters. However, according to The Nine Club podcast (as reported by Video Games Chronicle), Roger Bagley, one of the co-hosts, states that Activision had no intention of including Margera, but Tony Hawk himself advocated for his return to the game.
According to Bagley, he stated that the game was finalized when Tony contacted Activision, saying something like ‘we’re going to include Bam in it.’ Activision responded with ‘no, we can’t,’ but Tony was firm and essentially forced them to bring Bam back for body scanning and all other necessary preparations so he could rejoin the game.
Currently, Activision has not yet verified Bam Margera’s participation in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, so it’s advisable for readers to be cautious about Bagley’s statement until an official update is provided. If the information is indeed correct, Margera’s reported conduct during Jackass Forever might have influenced Activision’s decision; while he made a cameo in the 2022 film, he was initially intended to be a bigger part but was allegedly dismissed by Paramount due to substance abuse issues. It’s plausible that Activision may have had similar reservations and decided to exclude him from the game, until Tony Hawk reportedly intervened personally.
The games Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 are set to be released on July 11th. It won’t be long before we find out if Bam Margera is part of the game, one way or another. Since Tony Hawk has significant influence over games that bear his name, it’s plausible that Margera’s return in these remasters could be due to Tony Hawk himself. However, if Activision confirms Margera’s inclusion, they likely won’t disclose whether it was Tony Hawk who influenced the decision.
For devotees of Margera and the authentic iterations of these games, the prospect of the skater’s comeback in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 serves as an additional source of excitement. It’s been close to five years since the launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, and many enthusiasts had their reservations about another set of remasters. The wait has been long for these games to resurface, but let’s hope that the final product will justify it.
