As a dedicated gamer and wrestling fan with a deep appreciation for the history of professional wrestling, I’m thrilled about the potential of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) making its way to the legendary Hammerstein Ballroom. The Hammerstein Ballroom is known for its intimate setup and unique energy, having hosted some of the most iconic wrestling matches in history.
Ever since All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was established in 2019, they have showcased professional wrestling in various distinctive locations globally. Initially, Daily’s Place in Jacksonville served as their base camp during their formative period before embarking on a tour across different cities. Last year marked an impressive milestone for AEW as they organized the massive AEW All In event at Wembley Stadium in London, England, accommodating approximately 80,000 spectators. Moreover, Arthur Ashe Stadium is another regular venue for AEW during fall seasons. Recently, AEW President Tony Khan has pondered over the possibility of hosting another iconic venue – the Hammerstein Ballroom – renowned for hosting some legendary wrestling matches in a compact setting.
As a fan, I’d be thrilled if Khan considered managing the Hammerstein Ballroom in the future. During an interview with SportsGrid, he expressed his enthusiasm by saying, “That’s an intriguing proposition. I’ve yet to visit this venue personally, but I can attest to its reputation based on the impressive shows I’ve witnessed there. It’s a fantastic space, and given our strong connections in New York City, it could be a perfect fit.”
On the right night, that intimate setup in the not-so-large room could create quite an event, and I’d wager it would sell out lightning fast based on what I’ve witnessed on TV. The ambiance is captivating, with its visually appealing design and exceptional acoustics. It exudes an undeniable charm and excitement.
Back in 2022, I attended an unforgettable wrestling event hosted by Game Changer Wrestling at a venue that saw its fair share of wrestling action during the early 2000s when ECW used to hold shows there. The Wrld on GCW was a sold-out success, marking the promotion’s first time using this venue and the first wrestling event since 2019. ECW’s legacy left quite an impact, with Ring of Honor (ROH) following suit and making it one of their go-to venues for over a decade. However, with Tony Khan now being the sole owner of ROH, bringing the promotion back to this location isn’t in the cards just yet. Instead, they’re preparing for some exciting shows in Arlington, Texas, such as the upcoming Death Before Dishonor event.
