Tony Khan Responds to Jon Moxley's Cryptic Promo, Speaks on AEW's Relationship With GCW Bloodsport

As a die-hard wrestling fan who has seen my fair share of industry twists and turns, I must say that Jon Moxley’s return to AEW is nothing short of exhilarating! The former champ’s cryptic warnings and mysterious alliances have left fans guessing what’s next, with some even speculating Shane McMahon might make an appearance. But let’s not forget the common thread between Moxley and his new ally Marina Shafir – their shared love for GCW Bloodsport!

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to see Jon Moxley back in action with a fresh demeanor! Last week, the ex-AEW World Champion made a comeback by challenging Darby Allin and sending a veiled message to AEW announcer Tony Schiavone, hinting that “this isn’t your company anymore.” Later on, Marina Shafir teamed up with Moxley in an assault against AEW security personnel. The reasons behind Moxley’s actions are sparking plenty of debate, with some speculating that ex-WWE executive Shane McMahon might be drawn into this storyline. Moxley continued his return on this week’s AEW Dynamite, again confronting Allin for a chat and expressing admiration towards The Elite’s Young Bucks and Jack Perry

How does AEW’s owner feel about this “not [being his] company anymore”?

In response to a query from Liam Crowley at the AEW All Out press call, AEW President Tony Khan acknowledged Jon Moxley’s cryptic speech on AEW Dynamite. He expressed that he is eternally thankful for Moxley, regardless of any mysterious motives he may have

“It’s worth paying attention to what’s happening on AEW TV, as it seems Jon Moxley is involved. We’re lucky to have him with us in AEW, and whatever he’s hinting at during his conversations with Tony Schiavone, I believe AEW benefits from his presence. Jon Moxley joining AEW has been a key factor in our success as a promotion. Whatever he’s planning, I owe him a debt of gratitude. He is one of the founders of AEW, a pioneer in professional wrestling, and an accomplished author.”

It’s surprising that Moxley hired Marina Shafir since they hadn’t worked together on AEW shows before. However, they share a connection as frequent participants in the GCW Bloodsport events, a wrestling show with a ‘worked-shoot’ style promoted by Josh Barnett, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion now involved in professional wrestling. Interestingly, the next GCW Bloodsport event is scheduled for November 24th in Jersey City, New Jersey, just a day after AEW Full Gear on November 23rd, which is only eight miles away from Newark, New Jersey

“I have a great affection for Josh. He is indeed a fine individual.” [Khan] expressed his bond with Barnett, who participated in AEW at the WrestleDream 2023. “I am not overly familiar with the GCW individuals, but Josh and the Bloodsport participants, I believe we interact differently. We’ve encountered some people here that participate in GCW whom I am acquainted with, such as Billie Starkz and a number of young wrestlers who have been here for a considerable period.
