Time is rapidly running out for The Ultimates, as The Maker is expected to escape his confinement within a few months. Regrettably, they’ve made minimal progress in their global uprising thus far. Since discovering that they would have perished at the hands of the Hulk without Doom utilizing the Immortus Engine, they’ve come to understand that they had been approaching everything incorrectly. The Ultimates have since drastically altered their approach to combat, shifting from a team to a mass movement. During this transition, Iron Lad has harnessed the power of the Immortus Engine as his new heart, potentially tipping the scales in their favor.
The Ultimate Movement Has Begun
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve come to realize that in our initial year, The Ultimates attempted to fight like a team or an army to bring about change. However, we’ve learned that if we truly want to make a significant impact, we need to evolve into something greater. Instead of merely confronting the powers that be, we’re also dedicating time and effort to inspire and educate the people on how to stand up for themselves.
We’ve created our own version of the internet, a platform where we disseminate suppressed information and host anonymous sessions teaching valuable skills for self-empowerment. Luke Cage has been instrumental in leading rebellions within supermax prisons across North America, transforming them into educational institutions to groom future superheroes.
Iron Lad, with his time-controlling abilities from the Immortus Engine, has slowed down time inside these prisons, providing a prolonged training period for everyone involved. This way, we can ensure that our efforts bear fruit and that we’re not just fighting for today but shaping a brighter tomorrow.
It’s important to note that while our heroes appear to be thriving in their revolution across the Nine Realms, they’re not without their troubles. Thor and Sif persistently reject returning to Midgard, creating a rift within their group. Meanwhile, there’s a traitor among them who is leaking vital information to the ruling council of the world, causing tension and mistrust among the team members. Wasp has been covertly observing her fellow Ultimates for quite some time now, and recently uncovered a clandestine meeting between Iron Lad and the Human Torch. The two discussed a secret mission that would result in Torch’s demise, with Iron Lad showing no reluctance to proceed. It remains uncertain what transpired during this encounter, but Wasp is aware of it, and it seems probable she has shared this information with the villains. Additionally, Wasp stumbled upon an even more significant secret that could potentially alter the course of everything entirely.
Across the world, Iron Lad, inspired countless people, visiting prisons, combatting Red Skulls, and performing numerous other heroic deeds. The final page of the issue discloses that this is feasible due to Tony’s utilization of the Immortus Engine. This device not only grants him the ability to perceive through time and significantly reduces his need for eating and sleeping, but he’s also been using it to separate moments within his own timeline and divide them. Essentially, Iron Lad is generating copies of himself by manipulating his own timestream, enabling him to be in various locations concurrently. However, each duplicate requires a portion of his attention, so it’s not like he’s cloning himself, but more like he’s operating multiple bodies simultaneously. This setup seems akin to an information overload catastrophe, yet there are few individuals as adept at multitasking as Tony Stark. Currently, Tony is contemplating increasing the number of his chronal copies in rotation to nine or ten, meaning he would be handling ten distinct tasks and possibly engaging in ten simultaneous conversations. All this, while actively focusing on utilizing the Immortus Engine to maintain his timestream division. Even for someone as intelligent as Tony, it’s challenging to envision that extent of concentration not resulting in some negative impact. Nevertheless, even one additional Iron Lad makes a significant difference in the game.
The Ultimate Army of Iron Lads
With their deity protectors temporarily absent, Iron Lad stands as one of the Ultimate’s formidable combatants. His armor enables him to engage in fierce battles with some of the world’s strongest adversaries, and if he can now exist in multiple locations simultaneously, his firepower has significantly increased. Although a slight decrease in effectiveness as a fighter and strategist might occur due to the numerous versions of himself, having ten Iron Lads, each operating at sixty percent of the original’s ability, is an extraordinary enhancement. Iron Lad has recently discovered the time-altering capabilities provided by the Immortus Engine, and given his demonstrated skills so far, it’s safe to assume that he’s barely scratched the surface of his full potential. The Council may be aware of his capabilities, but that doesn’t mean they can prevent him from using this new power to revolutionize the way the Ultimages operate. Of course, they might attempt to exploit his divided focus, but we’ll have to wait and see if Iron Lad can leverage this new power to transform the business practices of the Ultimages.
