Tonys 2025: Keanu Reeves Reacts to Being Straddled By Jonathan Groff

Keanu Reeves is in for an epic adventure at the 2025 Tony Awards.

In the end, the actor who played John Wick was included in Jonathan Groff‘s grand performance medley from “Jonathan Groff” with a surprising dance move, or stunt, during the song itself.

Following the initiation of the melody on stage, the former Glee star found himself encompassed by a troop of pink-feathered burlesque dancers who gracefully fanned him prior to his walk among the spectators. With Keanu comfortably seated in the front row, Jonathan climbed up onto the armrests and gradually squatted lower as he sang, offering a captivating performance at Radio City Music Hall.

It was evident that the actor from the Matrix, grinning broadly, seemed content to take on the challenge of the performance. Meanwhile, Jonathan assumed a squatting position, making the iconic “rock on” hand signal twice in an astonishing instant.

Following an exceptional performance of the songs, Jonathan – nominated in the category for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for “Just in Time” – garnered a standing ovation from the audience, which included his costar and fellow nominee Gracie Lawrence, as well as close friend Lea Michele. For Jonathan, taking on the role of Bobby Darin in the musical pushed him to extend his abilities far beyond what he initially believed himself capable of.

He mentioned to Vogue in April that Bobby’s raw ferocity left him captivated, even on the vintage black-and-white videos of his performances. There was an undeniable aura and intensity about him. He wasn’t just a rock star or a balladeer singing tunes; there was a genuine bond in his performance style.

With that in mind, he knew their project was going to take a different direction than those before.

He shared that his intention was to kick off the performance as himself and engage directly with the audience to establish a special bond reminiscent of Bobby’s unique charm. This interaction creates an atmosphere suggesting we’re all sharing this moment together, with unexpected possibilities arising. The show’s concept originates from and thrives on this genuine connection between performer and spectators.

He undoubtedly infused the atmosphere with enthusiasm while sprinting through the rows at the concert hall, also involving the high-profile guests.
