Top 10 Comic Books Rising in Value in the Last Week Include Ghost Rider and Even More Venom

As a seasoned collector with over three decades of comic book hunting under my belt, I must say this list is quite intriguing! It seems we have a Symbiote invasion happening here, which isn’t entirely unexpected given their popularity among fans. The pairing of classic characters like Ghost Rider and Wolverine in the Form of Vengeance ’44 series certainly caught my eye, reminding me of the good old days when Marvel was pushing the envelope with innovative crossovers.

In the latest countdown, Knull and symbiote-related characters continue to lead the pack as fans eagerly anticipate the release of “Venom: The Last Dance“. A fresh character makes a speedy entrance, while an old specter of Vengeance Spirit joins forces with Wolverine and Nick Fury. Another series adaptation is climbing up the rankings, and a shocking book has claimed our number one spot. Stay tuned for this week’s Top Ten!

1: MARK SPEARS MONSTERS #1 – MARK SPEARS – COVER E – BRIDEZILLA | KEENSPOT ENTERTAINMENT | 2024

Through Mark Spears’ “MONSTERS” Kickstarter project, he has produced a unique treat for enthusiasts of the eerie and strange. The project gained sufficient backing to materialize, with various cover editions distributed as rewards for backers of the campaign. Notably, publisher Keenspot recognized its potential and acquired the publishing rights, making this stunning series available in comic book stores. Upon seeing it on shelves, it’s challenging not to be intrigued by the series, particularly the Bridezilla variant, which showcases a voluptuous Bride of Frankenstein as the main character. The classic monsters from yesteryear are experiencing a resurgence, and fans have been expressing their enthusiasm on the secondary market! We’ve observed a high sale price of $30 for an NM copy and a current NM raw price of $20.

2: GHOST RIDER #19 – LUCIANO VECCHIO – NEW CHAMPIONS | MARVEL | 2023

To mark Hispanic and Latin America Month, Marvel has chosen one of its top characters, Robbie Reyes (Ghost Rider), to introduce a new hero! However, it’s not entirely new – you’ll see the full introduction of Spectre (Fantasma) in the upcoming ROBBIE REYES SPECIAL. Her first cover appearance was part of the NEW CHAMPIONS variant release, but now that she’s getting a proper introduction, there’s been a surge of fans revisiting her debut before the book comes out. We’ve seen copies graded CGC 9.8 sell for $44 and raw NM versions going for $31.

3: VENOM #3 – RYAN STEGMAN – 3RD PRINT | MARVEL | 2018

Ever since the Venom 3: The Last Dance trailer revealed Knull, comic enthusiasts have been on a wild hunt to discover the symbiote deity’s debut. Interestingly, the initial release has skyrocketed in worth following the trailer, making it hard for collectors to afford. However, the third printing is fiercely competing with the original. This third edition (out of four) is unique as it showcases Knull prominently, making it the highly sought-after item among collectors. Fortunately, Marvel has ensured a large production of this third printing, but the cost to obtain one has significantly increased! We’ve seen a high sale price of $401 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw selling at $224.

4: NEW AVENGERS #33 – GABRIELE DELL’OTTO – REGULAR | MARVEL | 2015

The recent ULTIMATES #4 comic book has sparked much discussion about the potential inclusion of Robert Downey Jr. as Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many theories revolve around ‘incursions,’ an event that was hinted at in this series since its debut in issue #1 and reached a climax in this issue. With an impressive cover featuring Doom, fans are drawn back to consider purchasing it. We noticed that high-quality copies of the comic are selling for $24 and raw NM copies for $21.

5: THE INCREDIBLE HULK #6 – NIC KLEIN – REGULAR | MARVEL | 2023

In the latest HELLHUNTERS comic book series, readers are delving deeply into the avenger spirit of ’44, the Spirit of Vengeance! This five-issue limited series, set during World War II, uncovers the history of the Spirit of Vengeance following his first appearance in this Hulk publication. The alliance of Wolverine, Nick Fury, and a World War II Ghost Rider has sparked quite the buzz! Currently, a CGC 9.8 copy is selling for around $125, while an NM raw version goes for approximately $25.

6: SPIDER-WOMAN #7 – LEINIL FRANCIS YU – REGULAR | MARVEL | 2024

This group, known as The Assembly, featuring Titan, Cadet Marvel, Moon Squire, Liberty, and Hellrune, became quite a charming team. However, everything changed with issue #10, when it was unveiled that Titan had been the hidden villain Gremlin all along. This revelation sparked questions about who would endure and be chosen for the New Champions. As new heroes gain prominence, collectors often re-explore their initial days and challenges! We’ve seen a high sale of $65 for a CGC 9.8 version, and currently, an NM raw is priced at $9.

7: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #23 | MARVEL | 2015

This comic book explores the beginnings of the powerful Symbiotes, who now rule supremely, but originally started out much more humbly. It delves into their origin on their home planet Klyntar. With Knull scheduled to appear in upcoming movies, interest in the Symbiotes’ history is growing. Prior to this book’s release, there was no clear account of their origins. This comic set the stage for the development of the Knull storyline a few years down the line, and fans are eagerly collecting significant issues related to the Symbiotes. We found that a high-graded CGC 9.8 copy sold for $161, while an NM raw is currently valued at $19.

8: VENOM #4 | MARVEL | 2018

We did say Symbiotes dominated this list! This issue features the origin of Knull and is more of a definitive version. With a character like Knull, who was developed over the years through numerous titles, you need a book to tie them together. Collectors are looking at VENOM #4 to do so and are willing to pay on the aftermarket. Plus, it also features the origin of Knowhere, the decapitated Celestial head that rose in popularity thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy making it their home in the MCU. We tracked it at a high sale of $60 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw of $14.

9: THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #6 – ESAD RIBIC – REGULAR | MARVEL | 2013

In this book, Knull made an initial, unnamed appearance in a flashback, but he didn’t have a proper debut until 2018. This book also delves into the origin of Gorr, one of the principal wielders of the All-Black Necrosword. Collectors have been keenly acquiring all related items associated with Knull and appreciating the clues that ultimately led to his first full appearance years later. We’ve noticed a high sale price of around $150 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current market value of approximately $57 for a Near Mint raw edition.

10: REVIVAL #1 | IMAGE | 2012

It seems like zombies are back in style again! With Halloween around the corner, another zombie-themed title is gaining mainstream popularity, this time with a series adaptation announced by SyFy earlier this year. Last week, the main cast was finally revealed, which has sent collectors into a frenzy. For years, we’ve been stuck in a loop of announcement after announcement without any additional details. However, a casting announcement provides a bit more solidity and encourages even the hesitant fans to invest. We’ve seen a significant surge in sales, with a CGC 9.8 copy fetching as high as $400 and an NM raw version going for around $20.
