Top 10 Comic Books Rising in Value for the Week of 08/26/24

1: July 2008 – CROSSED #0 | AVATAR PRESS: The Constantine movie may not have been a box office hit, but fans adored it and clamored for a sequel for years. Similarly, the Preacher series didn’t set the commercial world on fire, yet it was cherished by fans. Both projects share Garth Ennis as their creator. Recently, another of Ennis’ properties has caught the option bug – Crossed! This series presents an intriguing premise: a plague sweeps the globe, causing people to act upon their darkest impulses. Given its potential for gripping TV, fans have been eagerly searching the secondary market for this book! We’ve tracked it selling as high as $60 for a Near Mint (NM) copy and currently listed at $33 in raw condition. As a fan, I can’t wait to see what unfolds!

2024: I can hardly contain my excitement as a fan, witnessing the comeback of Greg Capullo to Marvel comics, specifically in a Wolverine title! It seems like the Marvel team was determined to bring back the best for Wolverine fans. The creation of this book is a testament to that ambition.

Remarkable Issue 3: Extraordinary Gwenpool #1 – GURIHIRU – RECURRENT | MARVEL | APRIL 2016: As I mentioned previously, a Gwenpool character skin was recently added in the latest Fortnite season. Those who bought it could instantly use her, and since then, there have been quite a few Gwenpools seen around. This has exposed many newcomers to the character, leading some to explore more about her. Consequently, they found this book, an accessible Gwenpool comic series that echoes Fortnite’s style. It’s vibrant, zany, and filled with fun. Despite its playful nature, it’s drawing in new collectors, for which we express gratitude! We observed a top sale of $100 for a CGC 9.8 edition and a current market value of $15 for a Near Mint raw copy.

4: DEADPOOL #31 (JULY 2014, MARVEL) – This comic book introduces Ellie Comacho, the potential daughter of Deadpool, who has consistently been featured in our list. The impending ‘death’ of Wade Wilson and Ellie taking over his role in issue #7 of the current run is generating excitement among fans. Since Ellie is less known, there’s a lot of anticipation that she will be great. Many fans are willing to take a chance on her debut, considering it a low-risk investment. We’ve seen a high sale of $175 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current market value of $27 for a near mint (NM) raw edition.

Born Again? Only time will reveal the answer! I’ve seen CGC 9.8 copies selling for $312, while an NM raw version currently goes for around $36.

6: THE UNCANNY X-MEN VOL.1 #251 | MARVEL | NOVEMBER 1989: Man, this lesser-known gem has been generating quite the buzz lately. The anticipation was already high due to the hype surrounding X-Men ’97. Then the movie came out and really boosted its popularity. As if that wasn’t enough, insider info started leaking about how they pulled off that iconic scene. It’s thrilling to see the timeless classic cover back in print! We’ve seen a CGC 9.8 copy sell for around $350 and a near-mint raw going for $25.

7: “Avengers Volume 1 #55, published by Marvel in August 1968 – the somewhat overlooked Avengers movie titled ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. Despite being overshadowed by its predecessors and successors, it significantly introduced audiences to the formidable villain, Ultron. This character was brilliantly portrayed on screen by David Spader, who is fortunate enough to be reprising his role in an upcoming Vision series. The characters of Ultron and the Avengers were intricately connected within the movie, and this was often when they shone brightest. We traced a copy graded CGC 8.5 selling for around $186, while a raw Near Mint condition is currently valued at $35.”

8: THE POWER FANTASY #1 – Caspar Wijngaard – Regular Edition | Image | August 2024: This book has been eagerly anticipated by the community for quite some time. Even before its release, it was generating significant buzz. However, when the Chase variant came out, all eyes turned towards it. Initially, Cover A continued to perform well, but it was largely overshadowed by its limited edition counterpart. Now, with the chase variant either being sold out or becoming financially unattainable for some collectors, Cover A is once again gaining attention. We recorded a high sale of $23 for a Near Mint copy and currently have a Near Mint raw priced at $12.

8th Issue of Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars Vol.1 (December 1984): Here’s where the Black Suit storyline originated, a significant milestone for many Spider-Man enthusiasts, and could possibly influence future Marvel movies. However, it’s crucial to note that these plans are yet to be confirmed. Due to its connection with both Spider-Man and Venom, this comic will always be sought after. We’ve observed a high sale of $625 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw price of $152.

10: FAMOUS COMIC BOOK #1 – OCTOBER 2016 (Marvel Comics): This comic has quite the rhythm to it. When it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would take on Dr. Doom’s role in some capacity, there was a lot of excitement, primarily because this was the debut of Dr. Doom as Iron Man, complete with a Tony Stark A.I. This connection between Tony Stark and RDJ is strong, and it hasn’t been challenged yet. We saw a high sale for a CGC 9.8 copy at $211, while an NM raw version currently sells for about $51.
