The Boys,” streaming on Prime Video, stands out as one of the most beloved contemporary superhero franchises. Over four seasons, it has masterfully spoofed the Marvel and DC universes by presenting exaggerated, edgy versions of fan-favorite characters. Just like any superhero series, fans of The Boys often engage in heated debates about hypothetical fights. For instance, they wonder who would come out on top between Homelander and Soldier Boy, or if Starlight could defeat Stormfront in a deadly one-on-one battle. Fans are also curious about the extent of Victoria Nueman’s powers. Ultimately, nothing excites superhero enthusiasts more than speculating over who would win in various matchups.
Keeping that thought, we’ve compiled our list of the most formidable superheroes from The Boys. These aren’t your ordinary characters; they can inflict and endure immense destruction. They’re tough-as-nails individuals who strike like a runaway train and leave a trail of chaos behind them. In the world of The Boys, these are the top 10 characters who truly embody the potent mix of Compound V and violence.
10) Billy Butcher
To put it plainly, if the abilities granted by Temp V to Butcher persisted for longer than a day, he’d definitely be higher up on this list. Under the influence of the addictive but brief-lasting V24, Butcher managed to stand his ground against Homelander and even shattered Soldier Boy’s shield at one point. At present, Butcher remains a formidable adversary, boasting a sentient tumor that can release Venom-like tendrils powerful enough to tear apart both humans and superhumans. This tumor provides him with superhuman strength and rapid healing, but it also impacts his mental state, causing him to hallucinate frequently. These hallucinations, combined with Butcher’s already tenuous psychological condition, make him an unreliable combatant.
9) Cindy
There isn’t much information available about the character named Cindy. She shares some similarities with Eleven from Stranger Things, as both are bald telekinetics who were once subjects of secretive experiments by a suspicious organization known as Vought. After being inadvertently released by Lamplighter, Cindy has demonstrated an impressive telekinetic power, capable of collapsing steel doors as if they were made of paper and even maneuvering ships with just a tightened fist. Additionally, she appears to be remarkably resilient, having survived numerous gunshot wounds and endured a direct attack from Stormfront without any long-term damage. However, due to her limited appearances in the series thus far, it’s challenging to fully understand Cindy’s capabilities. Fingers crossed that we get to explore more about this enigmatic superhero when The Boys returns for its final season sometime next year.
8) Victoria Neuman
A unique superhero named Victoria possesses the skill of controlling blood, which she often utilizes for a destructive effect – detonating people’s heads. Known for this “head-popping” ability, Victoria poses a significant threat due to its effectiveness against both humans and lesser superhumans. However, her power has certain limitations. Firstly, she needs visual access to her target, making her vulnerable when enemies obscure her sight. Additionally, her powers may not work on more powerful superhumans; Homelander, for instance, challenged Victoria to explode his head, a challenge she hesitated to accept.
7) Translucent
In the series The Boys, if Translucent hadn’t perished early in the storyline, the ranking of notable characters might have been significantly altered. Despite his limited screen time, the glimpse we received of Translucent was sufficient to warrant a place among the Top 10. Translucent possesses unique abilities that stem from his skin, which he can rearrange into a carbon metamaterial, offering various applications such as invisibility or impenetrable diamond hardness. This made him difficult to apprehend and nearly impossible to kill. Regrettably, for the audience to perceive The Boys as a genuine threat to The Seven, they needed to demonstrate their ability to subdue an exceptionally powerful adversary, and Translucent was unlucky in this regard. Consequently, we never got to witness his potential against formidable superheroes like his comrades before he was destroyed by a tactically placed explosive device hidden within him.
6) Starlight
Despite her unassuming appearance, Annie January, also known as Starlight, from the series ‘The Boys’, might seem harmless at first glance, but appearances can be misleading, particularly with superheroes like her. Possessing the ability to absorb electricity and project it as intense bursts of light, Starlight’s energy blasts are potent enough to shatter six-foot thick metal doors or incapacitate powerful figures such as Black Noir and Stormfront. While the extent of her abilities remains undefined in ‘The Boys’, we’ve witnessed a blast strong enough to knock Soldier Boy off his feet. However, Starlight’s position on the hierarchy isn’t higher due to a significant vulnerability: she requires electricity to function, making her vulnerable to an EMP or being taken to a remote location where there’s no power source, rendering her powerless against adversaries like Homelander.
5) Stormfront
Unlike Starlight, Supergirl generates her own electricity. Essentially, Stormfront is The Boys’ equivalent of Thor, capable of firing destructive bolts of lightning at her adversaries and tough enough that she views a Homelander heat vision strike as foreplay. Just like Marvel’s thunder god, Stormfront boasts an extraordinary physical strength that surpasses most other supes. Although not at Homelander’s level, Stormy has demonstrated the ability to battle Kimiko and Starlight simultaneously. She’s even squared off against Homelander himself, but it was more a playful scuffle than a serious fight. Regrettably, despite her immense strength, Stormfront lacks the skills needed to conquer the other characters on this list.
4) Queen Maeve
Previously, Homelander labeled Maeve as the second most powerful member of The Seven, indicating her remarkable strength. Akin to Wonder Woman in many ways, Maeve shares attributes with DC’s renowned Amazonian powerhouse. She can outrun a building and stop a falling school bus, demonstrating incredible speed and strength, while also boasting near-invincibility. In fact, she has challenged Homelander on more than one occasion. Although she lacks his laser vision and flight capabilities, Maeve compensates with her exceptional martial arts skills and legs that can propel her across entire states.
3) Ryan
In the world of “The Boys,” Ryan, being Homelander’s son, holds immense potential to become the most powerful superhuman. However, with limited experience, it’s premature for him to challenge his father for the title of supreme superhero. Occasionally, we catch glimpses of the demigod he will eventually grow into, such as when his heat vision, stronger than his father’s according to canon, sent Soldier Boy crashing through a wall. With some training and time, there seems to be no limit to what Ryan might achieve in the future. At present, though, his youth and lack of experience make him unsuitable for the top position.
2) Soldier Boy
In the early days of Vought’s success with superhumans, Soldier Boy stood out as their first significant achievement. Long before Homelander took command of The Seven, Soldier Boy exhibited his immense strength and invincibility in battle alongside his squad, Payback. Enhanced by Compound V, Soldier Boy was already the strongest among all supers. However, the Russian military further augmented his abilities, turning him into a being with the potential for massive destruction, much like a nuclear reactor. Given that only his own offspring is marginally more powerful, it’s reasonable to assume that under certain conditions, Soldier Boy could potentially overcome his son. Yet, considering Homelander was intentionally crafted within The Boys universe and in reality to be the strongest superhuman, we don’t expect such a confrontation anytime soon.
1) Homelander
In a nutshell, just like anyone else, we find a bold prediction intriguing, but it’s hard to imagine anyone surpassing Homelander in our power rankings for ‘The Boys’. Given that he was specifically created to be the most powerful superhuman on the show, every other character is essentially measured against him. Homelander embodies the classic “evil Superman” archetype, and much like his comic book counterpart, he often emerges victorious due to the way his character has been written. While it might seem simplistic to resort to meta-discussion in a battle of supremacy, as Stan Lee pointed out, such debates can sometimes be resolved in no other way. For now, Homelander remains the most powerful character on ‘The Boys’, and should any other character manage to defeat him in the fifth and final season, we’ll make sure to revise our rankings. Until then, Homelander holds the top spot.
