Every year, the 2025 Summer Game Fest was filled with fresh and thrilling surprises. A dozen indie games were unveiled, along with trailers for major titles, making the event a treasure trove of anticipation. Yet, there were a few unexpected announcements that left everyone in awe.
Out of the approximately twenty games showcased on the program, several caught my attention as they seemed almost too good to be real. These announcements took me by surprise, and even now, with hindsight, I find it difficult to accept their reality. Nevertheless, here are some of the most surprising revelations from Summer Game Fest 2025.
Code Vein 2
At Summer Game Fest, the most surprising revelation came in the form of “Anime Souls” making its comeback, specifically Code Vein returning for a second installment. Yet, it wasn’t just the announcement that left people stunned; it was the innovative ways in which the sequel is altering its gameplay and mechanics that truly caught everyone off guard.
The trailer for Code Vein 2 showcases a fresh art style, blending anime influences with a more realistic approach. The world seems considerably larger than the initial game. Intriguingly, a scene in the trailer depicts the protagonist riding a bike, hinting at a possible shift towards an open-world environment. Additionally, the Steam page reveals that Code Vein 2 will introduce a new weapon and skill customization system. From the look of things, Code Vein 2 appears to be a significant departure from its predecessor, with improvements seemingly replacing what was changed.
ARC Raiders
The game titled “ARC Raiders,” initially unveiled at The Game Awards in 2021, has finally revealed its release date during Summer Game Fest 2025. It will hit the shelves on October 30, 2025. This game adopts a Player versus Player versus Environment (PvPvE) model, making both players and the environment potentially threatening.>
In the heart of the game ARC Raiders, you’ll traverse a barren planet, gathering resources for essential upgrades. These resources include new equipment, quest items, and various other loot. The process of equipping yourself is crucial in readying you to face AI-controlled adversaries known as ARC, along with fellow players. The wait has been longer than expected, but the moment to engage in combat against ARC robots draws near, anticipated this Fall.
Marvel’s Deadpool VR
A Deadpool video game wasn’t expected at all during Summer Game Fest 2025, but here it is! However, it’s a virtual reality (VR) experience exclusively for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S devices. The release date for Marvel’s Deadpool VR has been set for later this year in 2025.
According to the summary, Deadpool finds himself in the Marvel multiverse. Without reading the contract first, he jumps straight into combat against various formidable villains from the Marvel universe. What makes Marvel’s Deadpool VR particularly thrilling, as suggested by the creators, is that you can engage in all sorts of crazy actions. For instance, you can strike someone while holding a grenade, only to have your detonated limb hurled at another adversary. Deadpool VR truly embodies the quirky essence of Deadpool as expected. It’s a dream game for any ardent Marvel superhero fan.
Resident Evil: Requiem
The anticipated news about the “Resident Evil” series has been shared. A surprise full trailer unveiling along with a release date announcement has left everyone amazed. The ninth installment of the franchise is named “Requiem,” and it’s set to release on February 27, 2026.
In the initial teaser, numerous fresh characters were introduced, suggesting Grace Ashcroft as our new leading character. The remnants of Raccoon City were prominently displayed in the sneak peek, hinting at a potential return. It appears we’ll be going back there sooner rather than later. With less than a year until the launch of Resident Evil: Requiem, keep an eye out for another surprising trailer at this year’s Gamescom event.
Lies of P: Overture
Initially scheduled for summer release in 2025, “Lies of P: Overture” was unexpectedly dropped by Neowiz without prior announcement. Now, eager fans can enjoy the prequel DLC and delve into the history of Krat, exploring events that occurred before the machines were tainted.
The sudden appearance of Shadowdrop caught everyone off guard, including avid gamers and seasoned industry experts alike. However, it’s clear that the unveiling of Overture has been a significant triumph for all parties involved. This is particularly noteworthy given that there aren’t many games in the Soulslike genre on such a grand scale being released this year.
(The original sentence was: The shadowdrop blindsided everyone, from hardcore fans of the game to reliable industry insiders. In any case, Overture’s release is a massive win for everybody involved. Especially considering how there aren’t many Soulslikes of the same scale coming out this year.)
