Top Free Agent Tag Team Reportedly on Their Way to WWE

As a longtime fan of professional wrestling and someone who has followed The Motor City Machine Guns since their early days, I’m both excited and a bit sad about the possibility of them joining WWE. Their longevity and success in the independent scene is truly impressive, and it’s been amazing to see them conquer various promotions without ever stepping foot into the WWE.

According to recent rumors, The Motor City Machine Guns – a well-known tag team in the independent circuit – are supposedly joining WWE for the first time in their careers. Their contracts with TNA expired earlier this year, leading some to speculate they might be joining AEW due to their past association with the company, which includes a single appearance at a pay-per-view event several years ago. AEW president Tony Khan has expressed admiration for the team and hinted at the possibility of them returning, although he couldn’t confirm if they had already signed on the dotted line.

Discussions about the legendary team’s next destination started leaning towards joining WWE in the ongoing conversation. As unattached stars, they had reportedly been negotiating with the leading promotions, assessing which one would offer the best deal. Over the weekend at an independent event, their actions and the commentary hinted that it might be their last appearance on the indie circuit.

According to The Wrestling Observer, there is a strong belief within the wrestling community that Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will soon join the major sports entertainment company. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp also reportedly confirmed this information. In early July, Ciampa (one half of WWE Tag Team Champions) posted a picture of the esteemed tag team on his social media, fueling rumors that they were likely to join WWE. Shelley has some prior experience in WWE, having competed as an enhancement talent in the early 2000s and a brief stint in NXT before the pandemic. However, Sabin has never wrestled in a WWE ring before.

As a long-time fan of professional wrestling, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the incredible journey of this decorated tag team. With over two decades of experience under their belts, they’ve dominated the independent circuit without ever setting foot in the WWE. Their tenure with TNA during the early to mid 2000s was particularly noteworthy; they played a significant role in shaping the promotion’s development.
