As someone who’s spent countless hours navigating virtual racetracks and honing my samurai skills, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement as I delve into this list of upcoming games. From the visually stunning Unreal Engine 5-powered UFL to the unique stop-motion animation of The Spirit of the Samurai, there’s something for every gaming connoisseur here.
2025 is nearly upon us as we welcome the arrival of December! Unlike most years, this December promises a host of highly anticipated blockbusters, follow-ups, and several eagerly awaited early access titles. Take a peek at these 15 exciting releases coming your way this month!
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete
Fans of the game “Animal Crossing” might find solace in the fact that a sequel could be on its way for the Nintendo Switch’s successor, but until then, they can enjoy a standalone version called “Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete“, which was initially a free-to-play game released in 2017 and has now been revamped without any microtransactions. Starting December 3rd, this game will be available on both iOS and Android devices for $9.99 until January 31st, 2025. With over 10,000 items to unlock, a variety of events, and numerous animal characters to interact with as you design your dream camp, it offers an engaging experience that could keep fans entertained while waiting for the next big release.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide (PS5)
Following a rocky start on PC and subsequent success on Xbox Series X/S, the highly anticipated game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is now heading to PlayStation 5. Set to release on December 3rd, the game will incorporate all updates and enhancements, including revamped Talent Trees for each class, the Party Finder feature, Mastery system, and a new Havoc system that provides additional missions once Trust Level 30 is reached. If you’re in search of an engaging four-player co-op shooter within the Warhammer 40K universe, Darktide could be just what you need.
Infinity Nikki
Among the highly awaited games of 2024, “Infinity Nikki” by Papergames is a unique blend of a free-to-play open-world game with gacha elements. Instead of focusing on optimizing characters or surpassing Memory of Chaos 12, this game prioritizes organic exploration and a tranquil ambiance. In this dress-up adventure, players will find themselves in Miraland where they’ll encounter bosses, conquer Curio Domains, and collect outfits that offer various abilities. With its charming appeal, “Infinity Nikki” is set to release on December 5th for PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices.
Marvel Rivals
In a world where two Doctor Dooms disrupt time and space, causing chaos across multiple dimensions, it results in an epic clash among heroes hailing from various realities. This scenario is brought to life through NetEase’s Marvel Rivals, a dynamic hero shooter game that immerses you into the Marvel Universe as if you were Spider-Man, Venom, Iron Man, Captain America, or even Jeff the Shark.
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun – Aiko’s Choice (PS5, Xbox Series X | S)
Sadly, Mimimi Games has closed its doors, but the beloved game Shadow Tactics continues to thrive. Players on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 will soon have the opportunity to play Aiko’s Choice, an expansion that centers around the skilled Kunoichi character. This standalone addition offers three new main missions and interludes, as well as fresh environments for players to explore. In Aiko’s Choice, Aiko must grapple with her past and defeat her former sensei. If you loved the original game and enjoyed strategically combining your team’s abilities to tackle missions, then Aiko’s Choice is a can’t-miss experience. It launches on consoles on December 6th.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Machine Games’ latest comprehensive release has arrived, deviating from the traditional shooter genre. Titled Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle, this game is inspired by the renowned film series (excluding the recent releases), taking place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Indy embarks on a global quest to unravel mysteries surrounding the Grand Circle. The first-person perspective, occasionally switching to third-person, might be misleading; this game leans more towards action-adventure, incorporating platforming and puzzle-solving elements. Stealth can be used to subdue adversaries or engage in hand-to-hand combat. Machine Games boasts that this game will be their longest yet, making Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle an enticing option for wrapping up the year when it releases on December 9th for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 Remastered
It’s been quite some time since we’ve had any content from this series, but the remastered versions of “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2,” coming out on December 12th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, are a long-awaited joy. These remasters update the visuals and add a new map and compass for exploration, making the experience even better. Whether you’re an old fan or just discovering these games, they are timeless action-adventure classics that should not be missed.
Delta Force
After a 15-year hiatus since NovaLogic’s Delta Force: Xtreme 2, the series is set to return, developed by TiMi Studio Group. Starting December 5th, the game will be available in open beta on PC. This free-to-play title offers both single-player and co-op modes, but it’s the multiplayer aspect that truly shines, along with an extraction shooter mode named Hazard Operations, and large-scale battles involving vehicles and numerous players. Could this rekindle some excitement for the Delta Force? We’ll see next week.
Path of Exile 2 (Early Access)
After numerous delays since its initial announcement, Grinding Gear Games’ eagerly anticipated Path of Exile 2 is set to launch on December 6th, initially as an early access version for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Contrary to the release date, the game isn’t short on content. In fact, it offers three campaign Acts, six classes (each with two Ascendancies), numerous passive skills, an abundance of Skill Gems, and a host of other features. For a newcomer, completing the story content might take around 25 hours. However, that’s just the beginning, as you’ll then transition into the endgame. The Atlas of Worlds has undergone changes, drawing inspiration from Last Epoch’s Monoliths of Fate.
Equipped with Waystones, you journey to neighboring map locations, defeating adversaries and bosses to eradicate corruption. Activating Towers opens up additional areas of the map, leading to more corruption and obstacles. You’ll encounter refreshed league features such as Breach, Delirium, Ritual, and Expedition, each offering diverse rewards, enemies, and objectives. The sheer increase in content during early access is astonishing, and we’re eagerly anticipating exploring it all.
Alien: Rogue Incursion
Finally confirmed: Alien: Isolation 2 is on its way, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer. In the interim, Alien: Rogue Incursion could be a suitable alternative if you own PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 3, or SteamVR headsets. It debuts on December 19th and follows Zula Hendricks, a former Colonial Marine, as she explores the planet Purdan to respond to an SOS signal. As expected, Xenomorphs are present, but fear not – you’ll have access to classic weapons like the Motion Tracker, Pulse Rifle, and Shotgun to fend them off. However, staying vigilant and moving with caution are equally crucial for your survival.
Overthrown (Early Access)
This year has been filled with impressive survival crafting games, but let’s wrap up by discussing another one – Brimstone Games’ “Overthrown”. As the title suggests, you’ll be gathering resources, farming, building structures, and expanding your territory – all while chucking objects around. But it’s not just about construction; there’s also a good deal of combat as you fend off bandits and other dangers. Given its popularity during the last Steam Next Fest, “Overthrown” has certainly created a buzz. We can only hope that it lives up to expectations when it enters early access on December 5th for both PC and Xbox Series X/S.
The Spirit of the Samurai
Among the fascinating side-scrolling action games I’ve encountered throughout the years, “The Spirit of the Samurai” stands out as a unique gem. In this game, I find myself taking on the role of three distinct characters: the samurai Takeshi, the spirit Kodama, and a cat named Chisai. The gameplay involves exploration and battling against Tengu and Jorogumo, but what truly captivates me is the stop-motion animation. This unusual technique creates a mesmerizing aesthetic that sets “The Spirit of the Samurai” apart from other games.
UFL
Besides EA Sports FC, there isn’t currently another football game that stands out as an excellent alternative. UFL might fill this gap, providing a free-to-play experience built using Unreal Engine 5 featuring over 4500 real-life players, club management, a top division, and more to explore. Although we have reservations due to the performance of other free-to-play titles like eFootball, UFL is something to keep an eye on when it releases on December 5th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Skydance’s Behemoth
If you’re seeking a unique virtual reality adventure with intense melee battles, give Skydance’s Behemoth a try. This game is set in the desolate Forsaken Lands where players assume the role of Wren the Hunter and embark on a mission to slay the Behemoths to break a dreadful curse. The team behind The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners has developed it, and it will be available starting December 5th on PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest. So far, it promises an enjoyable combat experience.
My First Gran Turismo
Instead of a complete edition, My First Gran Turismo serves as a trial version of Gran Turismo 7, designed to introduce newcomers to the franchise with select tracks, vehicles, and events. It’s scheduled for release this holiday season on both PS4 and PS5, possibly on December 3rd, coinciding with PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. The specific content is yet undisclosed, but if you’ve hesitated about Gran Turismo 7, My First GT could be an excellent opportunity to try it out.
