I am deeply saddened by the news of Shannen Doherty‘s passing. As a longtime fan of her work, I have always admired her talent and tenacity. Her role as Brenda in “Beverly Hills, 90210” was a staple of my teenage years, and her performance left an indelible mark on me.

Donna Martin will always be grateful for Brenda Walsh.

Two days after the passing of Shannen Doherty, who fought breast cancer for almost a decade, her costar Tori Spelling from “Beverly Hills, 90210” posted a poignant message about the deep connection they shared, finding it hard to put it into a few simple words.

“If I shared with Shan that I felt compelled to briefly recap our 36-year connection through social media, her response would be something like ‘Forget them…’ She expressed sadness in a July 15 Instagram post over the untimely extinction of a relationship’s bright flame.”

As Tori went on to explain, she’ll never forget the first time they crossed paths.

“When I was fifteen, I first crossed paths with Shan,” Tori explained. “I was the boss’s daughter, feeling voiceless, while she was the charismatic star, full of confidence. She recognized my potential and encouraged me to find my own voice. We quickly became inseparable friends. We were each other’s confidantes, supporters through tough relationships, occasional roommates, and travel companions. Our bond went beyond just friendship.”

In fact, Shannen always “stuck up for” her and had her back.

The 51-year-old shared, “They believed in me when I didn’t or couldn’t, during our youth.” Our friendship was impacted by various external and internal factors. Rare is it to mend childhood friendships that shape so much of who we grow up to be; yet, we were given this opportunity.

But most of all, it was Shannen’s tenacity that made her unforgettable.

In an time when the majority of women felt uneasy expressing their strength, Tori described her as a nonconformist. She didn’t strive to be strong; it was simply part of who she was. Through her empowered femininity, she embraced sexiness, resilience, fearlessness, compassion, and a sharp wit that left us all in awe. Her biting humor was one of her most endearing qualities.

The actress from “House of Yes” concluded her heartfelt eulogy by pledging to her deceased friend. “Shan,” she assured, “I’ll continue to bear the flame. Embrace your strength! And, I’ll remain defiant for you. My love for you is boundless. Forever.”

After Shannen’s sad passing on July 13, when she was only 53 years old, heartfelt tributes came in from people who were close to her, such as her family, friends, and co-stars on “Charmed.”
