On this April Fool’s Day, while many tech giants are laughing it up with their witty pranks and retracting jokes about questionable gadgets, I find myself drawn to dBrand’s genuine offering – a chance for us all to “Touch Grass” with their innovative line of tech skins.
No, this isn’t just a joke.
These are high-tech skins made from electrostatically attached polyethylene, designed to resemble the lush green grass found in Yoyogi Park, Tokyo.
A wide variety of counterfeit product covers, numbering well over a hundred, can be found for popular items such as the Xbox Series X, Steam Deck, laptops, smartphones, and many others.
Visit dBrand’s website for a look at their Touch Grass collection, where you can discover the various product skin options they offer.
This type of humor is often characteristic of dBrand, a company known for its affinity towards satire, and they’ve even produced items such as Doomsday Kits in the past.
In an advertisement I received, dBrand playfully discusses its Touch Grass collection, suggesting that instead of promising to go outside and then postponing it, you can bring the outdoors inside with their product. Essentially, they’re offering a way to enjoy a simpler, more carefree time without actually having to step on grass. The tagline is “Touch grass…without physically touching grass.
The company playfully added a FAQ section containing, “‘Touch grass’ doesn’t refer to this situation,’” and responded amusingly by saying, “‘It seems like you could use some time outdoors then.’
Amazing.
Touch Grass was supposed to release last year, but challenges caused a delay

Upon inquiring about the novel product, it transpired that the Touch Grass series was initially planned for release in April, but the company encountered some obstacles that led to a delay.
In our previous approach using die-cutting, while it produced sharp lines, there was a gradual loss of grass strands from the edges, much like receding hair. To address this issue, we moved to laser cutting. The heat from the laser cauterizes and seals polyethylene strands at the edges, binding them together to prevent future shedding. Furthermore, anchoring each strand into an adhesive base layer, roughly 25% of its height, was crucial for maintaining long-term stability. Finding a balance between novelty and practicality proved intriguing, but we’re satisfied with the final result.
