As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of Studio Ghibli, I am absolutely thrilled about the early access release of Towers of Aghasba on November 19th for PS5 and PC! The game’s visual identity, inspired by the Aztecs and Jomon peoples of Africa, and its references to beloved Studio Ghibli films like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke, have me hooked.
The enchanting fantasy building/open-world game titled Towers of Aghasba, developed by Dreamlit Games, is set to debut in early access on November 19th, available for both PlayStation 5 and PC. A fresh article published on the PlayStation Blog offers insights into some of its influences and features that PS5 gamers can anticipate.
Among those influenced by the game’s visual style are the Aztecs and Jomon peoples, hailing from different parts of the world. The developer draws inspiration from Studio Ghibli films such as “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” and “Princess Mononoke,” which hold a special place in the developer’s heart. Notably, Yoichi Nishikawa, a background artist at Studio Ghibli who has contributed to numerous acclaimed films like “The Wind Rises,” “Wolf Children,” “Sky Crawlers,” “Summer Wars,” “The Boy and the Heron,” and others, plays a crucial role in the creation of “Towers of Aghasba.” It is Nishikawa who personally paints many of the game’s textures.
Pre-ordering PS5 gives players extra cosmetics. However, Dreamlit Games also utilizes 3D spatial audio and the DualSense controller to enhance the gaming experience. Designer Dave Nguyen explains that this feature allows you to hear details like insects flying nearby or ocean waves along shores, and by turning your camera, you can accurately locate where the sound originates from.
In a fight, haptic feedback is employed, and it’s not just during combat – you’ll also sense it when creatures make noise or approach you closely. The Lightbar modifies colors to indicate low health and critical health levels, while adaptive triggers are activated when you draw the bow and simulate the feel of different melee weapons according to their weight.
The game “Towers of Aghasba” is currently available for early purchase at a price point of $29.99. Keep an eye out for further updates as we approach its official release.
