Toxic Avenger Trailer Unleashes Troma’s Unrated Mayhem

As a seasoned movie critic, I must say that the legendary Toxic Avenger is back and more captivating than ever! This time around, he’s been given a fresh coat of paint that harkens to the gritty charm of low-budget grindhouse films – and trust me, it works wonders.

The much-loved Troma classic from 1984 receives an updated twist with none other than Peter Dinklage stepping into the iconic role previously held by Mitch Cohen as our beloved “Toxie.” Joining Dinklage in this chaotic adventure is a star-studded ensemble, featuring Jacob Tremblay (from The Predator), Taylour Paige (Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F), Jane Levy (Evil Dead remake), with Kevin Bacon and Elijah Wood adding their menacing touch as the villainous brothers Bob and Fritz Garbinger.

In essence, if you’re a fan of the original or simply appreciate a good blend of action, comedy, and over-the-top mayhem, then this updated take on The Toxic Avenger is definitely worth checking out!

In the trailer that follows, it’s clear that the 2025 remake of “The Toxic Avenger” is maintaining the gritty, budget-friendly ‘splatter film’ vibe of the original. This should delight die-hard fans who are eager for a faithful adaptation.

What Is The Toxic Avenger About?

In the new version of The Toxic Avenger, we find our protagonist, Winston Gooze (Dinklage), a janitor struggling in life, undergoing a tragic toxic spill transformation. Now he’s not just any hero; he’s The Toxic Avenger! As he rises from outcast to protector, he confronts merciless corporate bosses and corrupt entities who endanger his son, friends, and townspeople. In this world where avarice rules supreme… vindication is most potent when it’s radioactive.

In this upcoming movie titled “The Toxic Avenger,” which hits theaters on August 29, 2025, you’ll see Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Taylour Paige, Jacob Tremblay, and Jane Levy in leading roles. This film was written and directed by Macon Blair and is inspired by Lloyd Kaufman’s original movie of the same name.

Film professional Macon Blair is establishing a unique niche for himself as a filmmaker with an Americana style, infused with a touch of grindhouse flavor. He directed the darkly comedic neo-Noir film “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore“, starring Wood and Melanie Lynskey from Yellowjackets, as well as writing the Netflix movies “Small Crimes” and “Hold the Dark“. The latter film gained a dedicated following. Blair also produced the cult-favorite horror movie “Green Room“, along with Netflix’s hit series “Rebel Ridge“, which saw significant success last year.

Funny thing, I’ve been eagerly waiting for that Toxic Avenger remake I caught at Fantastic Fest 2023 a while back. The uncut version is chock-full of intense violence, gore, and other mature content, making it tricky to find a big-screen distributor. But lo and behold, Cineverse stepped in early this year and cleared the way for its release, scheduling it for late summer.

Of course, it’s no secret that a thrilled audience is counting down the days until the big-screen debut of The Toxic Avenger on August 29th.
