Toy Story 5 Director and First Teaser Revealed

Toy Story 5 Director and First Teaser Revealed

As a gamer who grew up with the iconic Toy Story franchise, this news has me buzzing (pun intended)! With Andrew Stanton returning to direct Toy Story 5, I can’t help but feel that we’re heading back to the heart of the series. His involvement in the writing and producing of previous films, coupled with his impressive resume, gives me high hopes for this new adventure.

As an excited fan, I can’t contain my enthusiasm after learning about the latest developments at this year’s D23 event. Pixar unveiled exciting news about several upcoming projects, both familiar and entirely new, including the long-awaited fifth installment of the legendary Toy Story series. Ever since Disney CEO Bob Iger announced it in early 2023, fans like me have been eagerly waiting for any updates on our beloved toys’ next adventure. In a thrilling turn of events, Pixar CCO Pete Docter hinted at a veteran Pixar director taking the helm for this movie back in early June. Tonight at D23, we finally received confirmation that Andrew Stanton, who has been involved with the Toy Story franchise since 1995, is officially rejoining the team.

In the upcoming Toy Story 5, renowned screenwriter Andrew Stanton will take on the director’s chair. Previously, he has penned the scripts for all previous Toy Story movies. #D23

Despite not having directed any of the Toy Story films, Stanton was involved in their creation: he co-wrote the first four episodes and served as an executive producer on the fourth one. On the other hand, he has directed movies like Finding Nemo and its sequel Finding Dory, Wall-E, and A Bug’s Life. The latest teaser for the upcoming movie doesn’t give much away, but it does bring back characters such as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and their alien friends (the ones with the claw). During the showcase, Stanton hinted that the new installment will have the toys battling against technology when a number of rogue commemorative Buzz action figures become stuck in toy mode, causing trouble for everyone.

Following the debut of “Lightyear”, where Chris Evans donned Buzz Lightyear’s helmet, fans expressed their dissatisfaction, a sentiment that Pixar’s director, Docter, acknowledged as he felt they may have expected too much from the viewers. With Stanton returning to helm the project, he now has the chance to revisit the heart of “Toy Story”. In an interview with The Wrap in 2023, Docter hinted at the forthcoming chapter as “unexpected”, adding that “It contains some truly amazing elements that you haven’t encountered before.”

As a long-time fan of the Toy Story series and Buzz Lightyear, last year, I heard that Tim Allen, who voices my favorite space ranger, was considering reprising his role. On Jimmy Fallon’s show, he shared that both he and Tom Hanks were approached for another adventure, but he seemed a bit uncertain about it. He expressed concern over whether adding another movie would be too much for fans like me who already love the sci-fi franchise. However, he mentioned that the writer working on the project is known for creating one of the best Toy Story movies, so I’m excited to see how they bring us back together. He said if the writer didn’t get it right this time, he wouldn’t do it at all, which makes me hopeful for a fantastic reunion!
