Showrunner Elwood Reid, from the series “Tracker,” has provided additional insights to clear up the mystery surrounding who murdered Ashton, Colter’s father, in the season 2 finale.
According to TV Line, Reid explains that the show’s latest revelation – Otto Waldron shoving Ashton off a balcony at the apparent request of Mary Colter’s mother – does not imply that Mary directly ordered Ashton’s death, but rather suggests some level of involvement in the incident. He hints that there is much more to explore with this storyline, particularly concerning Mary. Moreover, he teases that season 3 will delve into Ashton’s past and potential government connections. Here are Reid’s comments for your perusal:
[Reid’s Comments]
In our current understanding, Mary appears to have been involved in Ashton’s demise, and Otto seems to be the one who pushed him off the cliff. With the way Season 2 concluded, is it likely that Season 3 will start almost instantaneously after where we left off in Episode 1?
Let me set the record straight: He didn’t claim that his mother arranged the murder of his father, but rather he said “she asked me to be up there.” This suggests there’s a lot more to the tale that needs exploring. We’ve had many discussions about how complex life can be, and it seems that Colter’s life is more convoluted than most.
It appears that Colter may never relinquish this issue, and I doubt a straightforward solution exists. Although the final episode provides another significant piece of the puzzle, there’s still plenty of depth left to explore within this narrative, especially concerning his mother.
On TVLINE: Does Otto claim to not be working with federal agents, yet we’re aware of Ashton’s background – he was a government contractor for several years. So, how integral is the broader government conspiracy going to be in shaping the series as it progresses?
It’s intriguing that you’ve brought this up, as it’s one of the minor, enigmatic storylines I’m planning to explore in Season 3. There have been hints about Colter’s father, particularly through Russell, suggesting that he may not be who he appears to be.
In Episode 19, when he discovers the phone number hidden in the small book and asks Randy to search for it, it seems like it’s part of something bigger. We’ll gradually peel back layers regarding Ashton’s character, and I believe this will introduce an enjoyable group of new characters.
I’m unsure if we can find a straightforward solution soon, but in the third season, I’m hoping for a narrative thread that sheds light on his father’s potential past involvements. In Season 2, there were episodes hinting at this aspect, although they might have been overlooked by some viewers. Justin [Hartley] and I have discussed this topic extensively.
