45-year-old Geoffrey “Geoff” Stirling Jr., previously known for his modeling career and acting/producing work, tragically lost his life after an encounter with police on a highway close to Newport Beach in Orange County, California on April 17th.
Lydia posted on Instagram on April 19th saying, “We’ve endured a heart-wrenching tragedy in my family. My beloved brother, Geoff, has passed away unexpectedly, leaving us with unbearable grief.
Six months following the demise of their mother, Lydia’s brother or sister succumbed to their illness, having been battling breast cancer for an extended period. Notably, Lydia’s late mother, Judy Stirling, had made several appearances on RHOC (Real Housewives of Orange County) prior to her passing.
After the passing of our mother, this was the melody he often played for comfort. Each time he listened, tears would fall. This is what Lydia, aged 44, shared in her online memorial, accompanied by a picture of Geoff. ‘I still can’t fathom that we’re experiencing this heartache barely six months after losing my dearest friend and mother.’

On Instagram, Lydia posted on April 19th that our family has suffered a heart-wrenching tragedy. Unfortunately, my dear brother, Geoff, has passed away unexpectedly, leaving us all in deep sorrow.
Lydia’s brother or sister deceased about half a year following Judy Stirling, a regular on RHOC (Real Housewives of Orange County), who lost her life to breast cancer after a prolonged struggle.
This was the melody he leaned on following our mother’s passing. Each time he heard it, he would cry, as shared by Lydia, aged 44, in her heartfelt online tribute, which included a touching picture of Geoff. ‘I still can’t comprehend that we are experiencing this agony, barely six months after losing my dearest friend and mother,’ she wrote.
As a steadfast believer, I find solace in knowing that those two individuals are now by the side of our Lord, Jesus. With each stride, I feel His presence guiding me through these challenging times. One footstep at a time. My heartfelt gratitude extends to every soul who has offered prayers on our behalf.
Apart from Lydia, Doug McLaughlin (her husband) and their children – Stirling (16 years old), Maverick (14 years old), Roman (10 years old), as well as Geoff’s father Scott Stirling (age 73) and older brother Jesse Stirling (53 years old) – are also among those who mourn his passing. Jesse, in particular, paid a heartfelt tribute to him on social media.

I find it challenging to start this tribute. All I can say is that your departure at age 45 came far too early. Your infectious laughter and unbridled energy will be sorely missed. Although our time together was tragically cut short, the cherished memories we made will continue to resonate in my heart forever.
Jesse went on to say, “In each shared joke, every moment of happiness – from hiking together, playing tennis and basketball, discussing scripture, meditating, watching movies, creating video projects, practicing yoga, or having deep discussions about life’s purpose – you showed me the essence of brotherhood and friendship.
Jesse conveyed that Geoffrey has left an indelible mark on their family’s hearts, stating, “We will keep your essence within us, cherishing your memory at every turn.” In simpler terms, he expressed his sentiment as, “Your spirit will travel with us. We remember you with each step we take. Rest in peace, treasured brother. Our longing for you is immeasurable, and our love transcends words.
On April 18, the Newport Beach Police Department announced via social media that one of their officers had discharged their weapon towards Geoff, a local resident of Laguna Niguel in Orange County, following a traffic stop of Geoff while he was riding a motorcycle on Pacific Coast Highway.
Immediately following his stop, Stirling began acting uncooperative and physically attacked the police officer. In the resulting heated confrontation, Stirling managed to take the department-provided taser from the officer’s belt and tried repeatedly to use it against the officer. This incident then led to a situation involving an officer discharging their firearm.
At the incident site, more police officers arrived and provided medical assistance to Geoff until paramedics showed up. Later, he was taken to a nearby hospital, where unfortunately, he was later declared deceased.
“In accordance with California law, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) was notified and responded to the scene to conduct an independent investigation,” the statement added. “Once their investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section for independent review. This remains an active investigation.”

I’m at a loss as to how to start this tribute. All I can say is that your departure from us came far too early at just 45 years old. Jesse went on to say, “In each joke we exchanged, in every instance of happiness – every hike, tennis match, basketball game, Bible study session, meditation, movie we watched together, video project we created, yoga practice, or profound discussion about life’s purpose – you demonstrated the essence of brotherhood and friendship to me.
I can never forget the profound impact Geoffrey had on our family; he’s engraved deep within our hearts forevermore. Every move we make will be a tribute to his spirit, a testament to the love we hold for him. Peace be with you, dear brother. Our longing for you transcends words, and our affection for you is boundless.
