Francisco San Martin, a Spanish actor who graced our screens in popular soap operas like ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, passed away on January 16 at his residence. This information is reported by Deadline. He was just 39 years old.
As reported by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, it appears he took his own life.
Born on the beautiful Spanish island of Mallorca, San Martin later moved to Montana during his upbringing, as reported. In his teenage years, he found himself back in Spain, residing in Madrid, where he started modeling and took acting classes. His talent eventually led him to land roles in various Spanish theater, television, and film projects.
In 2011, San Martin joined the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” as Dario Hernandez, a small-time crook who turns out to be working on an unsolved case. For half a year, he played Hernandez until his character left for Argentina. Later on, in 2016, Jordi Vilasuso took over the role of Hernandez.
Apart from appearing on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the actor was also featured in “Jane the Virgin.” In the first show, he played Mateo, the caretaker of Forrester Manor, who found himself tangled up in one of Sheila’s plots.
In the television show “Jane the Virgin,” actor San Martin shared scenes with lead actress Gina Rodriguez, portraying Fabian Regalo del Cielo. This character was involved in the same telenovela as Jane’s father Rogelio. San Martin’s character appeared during seasons three and four of the series, which also featured actors Justin Baldoni and Brett Dier. During this time, his character had a short-lived romantic interest in Jane.
One of the actor’s other listed credits includes the 2013 TV film Candelabra.
After hearing about San Martin’s passing, Camila Banus, one of his co-stars from Days of Our Lives who played his on-screen sibling Gabi, expressed her sorrow publicly online.
Pepe, beyond words, I love you and may you find peace, my dear friend,” she expressed on Instagram, as reported by Forbes. “You were the only one who sang ‘happy birthday’ to me right in the midst of a concert in Hollywood – an unexpected moment that left everyone amazed.
She added, “Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.”
