Tragic Loss: Telemundo Reporter Dies at Super Bowl 2025

The journalism community is grieving a tragic loss.

Adan Manzano, a Spanish-speaking sports journalist with Telemundo Kansas City, tragically passed away during his work covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans, as confirmed by the network. He was only 27 years old.

According to Steve Downing, General Manager, Adan, who served as Sports Anchor and Reporter at KGKC, was an outstanding professional and a promising talent, consistently demonstrating exceptional skill in his role. We will greatly miss Adan, his infectious love for sports, and the significant impact he had on our local community.

The message further expressed, ‘We send our deepest sympathies and compassion to his family and close ones as they navigate through this challenging period.’

In the unfortunate incident I’m referring to, I must share that the specific reason behind it remains undisclosed. However, in collaboration with law enforcement, we are actively participating in their investigation into this heart-rending occurrence.

Born in Mexico City, Manzano resided in Topeka, Kansas, for work at the local Telemundo station. Beyond reporting on the 2024 Super Bowl as a field reporter, he harbored a deep enthusiasm for providing coverage of the Kansas City Chiefs to a wider Spanish-speaking audience.

In an interview with KSNT 27 on February 2024, he remarked that the Kansas City Chiefs are gaining significant popularity in Mexico City. Traditionally, soccer has been the preferred sport among Hispanics and Latinos, but there’s always room for football to become a favorite too. He emphasized this point as important.

Approximately nine months before his passing, Manzano’s wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd Manzano-Aguilar (a second-grade teacher who had a two-year-old daughter named Eleanor with him), lost her life in a devastating head-on car accident as reported by WIBW 13. She was just 24 years old.

The obituary noted that Ashleigh was exceptionally kind, compassionate, and radiantly beautiful. Her vivacious personality could brighten any space, making every room feel more welcoming. She was like sunshine, always radiating a warm smile. Ashleigh left an indelible mark on countless lives and brought positivity wherever she went.
