As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself deeply saddened to share that my dear friend Lydia McLaughlin and her beloved family are grappling with a profound grief following a heart-wrenching loss.
On April 17, in Southern California, the younger brother of the ex-Bravo star, identified as Geoffrey “Geoff” Shyam Stirling Jr., lost his life following an encounter with law enforcement officers. At the time of the incident, he was 45 years old.
McLaughlin, aged 44, shared through a statement to TMZ on April 18 that our entire family is heartbroken due to the passing of my dear brother. We are deeply touched by the compassionate messages and support from friends, relatives, and the community. In this difficult time, we humbly request privacy as we grieve together.
Today, I found myself in a scenario where I was pulled over by the diligent officers of the Newport Beach Police Department. As a resident of Laguna Niguel, California, I was riding my motorcycle along a bustling highway when they flagged me down for an apparent traffic infraction.
Immediately following his stop, Stirling grew uncooperative and physically attacked the police officer. In the subsequent struggle, he managed to grab the department’s taser from the officer’s belt and tried using it against the officer several times. This led to a police-involved shooting incident.
More officers arrived at the location and provided medical assistance to Stirling until firefighters from Newport Beach arrived. Eventually, Stirling was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead.
According to the police department’s statement, as required by California law, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) was alerted and carried out an unbiased probe at the site.
Once the investigation concludes, the results will be handed to the Department of Justice’s Special Prosecutions Unit for a separate examination. It is important to note that this investigation continues to progress actively.
Besides Lydia, there is also Geoff, aged 44, who once worked as a model and actor and ran his own production company. He is survived not only by his sister Lydia but also by his brother Jesse Stirling (age 53) and father Scott Stirling (age 73), who serves as President and CEO of the Canadian Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Ltd., a company co-founded by Geoffrey Stirling, Geoff’s late father who passed away in 2013.
Geoff is survived by his late mother, Judy Stirling, who passed away in October following a long fight against breast cancer. On several occasions, she was featured on the Real Housewives of Orange County.
Previously co-star Vicki Gunvalson expressed sympathy after learning about Lydia’s brother’s passing. She wrote on Instagram, “Lydia – I am deeply saddened to hear about the death of your brother.” Expressing her heartache, she added, “I send my condolences to you and your family. May peace find you during this difficult time.
