As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for the Trails series, I must admit that the news of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter‘s global release next year has filled me with both excitement and apprehension. The original localization by XSEED was nothing short of exceptional, earning it widespread acclaim. However, I am willing to give the revamped localizations a chance, hoping that they will be as faithful to the original as promised.
Last week, it was confirmed that Falcom’s remake of “Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter,” originally known as “The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC,” will be released globally next year. Regrettably, this new version won’t include the same localization as the original game, which was handled by XSEED and received widespread acclaim.
The Steam listing for the remake mentions that the narrative includes updated translations in English, German, and French. These translations have been meticulously polished, so it’s yet to be determined how closely they align with the original. In fact, the localization could potentially be more true to the Japanese version’s content.
In addition to a fresh interpretation, you’ll find new English and Japanese voiceovers. Unlike the original Trails in the Sky series, which didn’t include voice acting except during combat, this is an enhancement. Fingers crossed that Estelle’s audio quality will be improved when she appears in Trails of Cold Steel 4.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will be available in Fall 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PC.
