It appears that Paramount will not be releasing a sequel to the “Transformers One” movie. According to its director Josh Cooley, there were ideas for follow-ups involving the animated prequel film, which centered around Energon miners Orion Pax (voiced by Chris Hemsworth) and D-16 (Brian Tyree Henry), who transformed into Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively. These characters united to save Cybertron from the treacherous Sentinel Prime (Jon Hamm) and the Quintessons. Unfortunately, despite positive feedback from both fans and critics, the movie produced by Paramount and Hasbro did not perform well at the box office, generating $129 million while reportedly costing $75 million to produce.
Cooley shared during BotCon that there’s no exciting update about a Transformers Two sequel, as Paramount Animation has shown no interest in it. This revelation was disappointing to the convention-goers.
As I was informed, that’s the situation,” said Cooley, filled with enthusiasm. “If only we could, I’ve got some great thoughts to share. It would be awesome!” He continued, “Let’s wait and watch. Who knows what the future holds?

In September last year, the debut of “Transformers One” earned $24.6 million at the domestic box office, trailing behind the third consecutive victory of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” from Warner Bros. The entirely animated Transformers film since 1986 eventually concluded its nine-week run with a total of $59.1 million domestically and $69.2 million internationally, adding up to a global box office revenue of $129 million.
The movie concluded as Optimus Prime, now officially titled, led his Autobot team comprising Elita-1 (Scarlett Johansson) and Bumblebee (Keegan-Michael Key), with Megatron, the traitorous robot, adopting the Decepticon name alongside Shockwave (Jason Konopisos-Alvarez), Soundwave (Jon Bailey), and Starscream (Steve Buscemi).
In Cooley’s statement, he mentioned that the storyline for the Autobots versus Decepticons would deviate from the path taken by the live-action movies since the Michael Bay-directed Transformers film in 2007. Notably, Paramount has planned a live-action G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover movie for release in 2024.
Cooley expressed his enthusiasm about what lies ahead: “We’ll be able to narrate the same tale with a fresh twist, and that’s what excites me. It’s like we’re starting anew, but with various alterations. This is a vast playground full of possibilities. I believe it’s a prequel to similar events, yet possibly they unfold differently in the future.
Instead of working on a sequel to “Transformers One,” the filmmaker behind the Academy Award-winning “Toy Story 4” is now set to join Paramount Animation for an animated version of “I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story,” which is based on a children’s book by Mark Pett. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds’ production company Maximum Effort will be producing this project, with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul – the songwriters for Disney’s “Aladdin” and “Snow White” – also involved.
