Travis Decker Case: Police “Closing In” on Dad Accused of Killing Kid

Police are confident Travis Decker will be brought to justice soon.

Following the tragic discovery of the daughters – Paityn (age 9), Evelyn (age 8), and Olivia (age 5) – in a Washington state campground on June 2, which led to charges of murder and kidnapping against the suspect, law enforcement provided an update on their ongoing investigation.

At a press conference on June 12, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison stated that Travis must strive for flawlessness every day. He can’t afford to make any errors because even a single error could work in our favor, leading to his arrest.

The sheriff went on to emphasize that he hopes Decker, 32, was tuning in to the press conference.

“I hope he knows that we haven’t given up,” he continued. “We have not stopped our investigation.”

Later, Morrison shared where the investigation stood.

Chelan County officials continue to urge citizens to provide any additional information or tips they may have.

Morrison emphasized that we greatly value any details or assistance the public could provide. Similar to previous manhunts, achieving a resolution will require a combined community effort.

On May 30th, Decker was last spotted by his ex-wife, Whitney Decker, during their routine custody visit. After the exchange, Whitney anticipated that Decker would return their three children to her home by 8 p.m. However, when he failed to appear and her subsequent calls went straight to voicemail, she contacted the police.

After a two-day investigation, the young girls were tragically discovered with plastic bags covering their heads, close to an abandoned truck at Rock Island Campground within the Wenatchee National Forest. An autopsy revealed that they died due to asphyxiation, which was ruled a homicide in a press release issued by Chelan County on June 9th.

Arianna Cozart, Whitney’s attorney, informed CNN on June 8th that Whitney and Decker had kept a cordial relationship post-divorce, but she acknowledged his struggles with mental health. Nevertheless, Cozart clarified to the media outlet, “Decker never showed any signs of concerning behavior or ‘warning signals’ to Whitney.

Multiple press announcements from Chelan authorities advise the general public not to engage with Decker should they spot him, due to his expertise in military combat which makes him potentially dangerous.
