Kevin Bacon‘s movie “Tremors” didn’t set the globe ablaze when it debuted in cinemas in 1990, but even the actor acknowledges the narrative possibilities of a world where colossal, subterranean worms occasionally attack settlements. He has expressed his continued interest in reprising his character, Valentine McKee. Previously, Bacon had a brief opportunity to revisit the role, as he filmed a pilot for a “Tremors” TV series. However, SYFY chose not to progress with this project, and consequently, this pilot has never been shown publicly. As fans eagerly anticipate a potential “Tremors” comeback, they can catch Bacon in “The Bondsman,” which premiered on Prime Video on April 3rd.
In the movie “The Bondsman,” characters come back from the dead, so when asked about which former character he’d like to bring back to life by ComicBook, actor Bacon said, “I’d choose Valentine McKee from Tremors. I’ve always felt that the ending we gave that character was incomplete, after all he had gone through such an extraordinary journey. It’s a regular man facing extraordinary circumstances, much like The Bondsman. I’m curious to see where this guy would be 25-30 years later and what became of him.
Previously, Bacon hasn’t kept his fascination for this character hidden, as he openly revealed in 2021 that it was the sole character he desired to develop a sequel for, and it’s also the only one of his films he has rewatched on more than one occasion.
During an interview with Esquire, Bacon shared that there was one of his films he felt compelled to revisit a character from. He generally doesn’t look back, but as for Tremors, it’s the only movie of his that he has rewatched since its release.
Just as fans find it hard to believe that Bacon hasn’t managed to bring his character back officially, Bacon himself shares this confusion, wondering why a studio or network hasn’t yet turned this wish into reality.
Back in 2020, Bacon expressed his puzzlement to Dread Central about a pilot we produced outside Albuquerque. We built an amazing town, gathered a fantastic cast and crew, and I can’t fathom why they didn’t want to proceed with the project. It remains a mystery to me. If I felt the pilot was subpar, I would say we simply missed the mark, but it was actually quite good. Achieving that delicate balance between humor and terror is challenging, as you know, and that’s where Tremors, Shaun of the Dead, and Get Out excel. However, this project was intended for a series, not a TV movie.
Despite the absence of Bacon, the franchise continued to generate six sequels and a TV series in the early 2000s. With hopes for a new Tremors installment still alive, fans can currently see Bacon in The Bondsman.
In this story, Kevin Bacon plays the character Hub Halloran, a reanimated bounty hunter who died but was brought back by the Devil with a task: capturing and returning demons that have broken free from Hell’s prison. Along his journey, he is assisted and obstructed by his strained family members, ultimately uncovering how his personal transgressions led to his soul’s damnation. This revelation sparks Hub’s desire for redemption, a fresh start in life, affection, and the pursuit of country music.
This series features Jennifer Nettles, known for her roles in “The Righteous Gemstones” and “The Exorcist”, Damon Herriman from “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood” and “Justified”, Beth Grant of “No Country for Old Men” and “Donnie Darko”, Maxwell Jenkins who starred in “Arcadian” and “Lost in Space”, as well as Jolene Purdy, recognized for her work in “The White Lotus” and “Orange is the New Black”.
Currently, “The Bondsman” is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Keep an eye out for news regarding the potential future developments in the “Tremors” series.
