Exciting news for Tremors enthusiasts: The production company responsible for the first four Tremors series installments, Stampede Entertainment, has regained control over the original script for Tremors (originally titled “Beneath Perfection”). This is significant because they’ve only secured some of the rights. While this is certainly good news, it doesn’t give Stampede Entertainment unrestricted freedom. In fact, quite to the contrary, their official website has clarified that they don’t yet have the rights to the first film or the ability to license anything from it.
Stampede has made it clear they aren’t interested in external suggestions, so there’s no need for you to submit your spec script. Interestingly, they have hinted at considering a sequel that might revisit Perfection, the setting where many films took place, including scenes from the original movie.
It’s intriguing that Stampede is pondering over bringing back Kevin Bacon for the Tremors franchise. He played a significant role in the initial movie, but we haven’t seen him since in any sequels. It seems that Bacon himself has expressed interest in revisiting his character, hoping to find out what became of him after 25-30 years.
It seems he might get a glimpse into what “Old Man” Val has been doing for the past few decades, but keep your excitement in check. Previously, efforts were made to revive the franchise with Bacon involved, yet none of them came to fruition. In 2017, SYFY opted for a Tremors series pilot featuring Bacon, and fans got excited. However, that project remained stuck in development limbo as SYFY decided against turning the pilot into a series. Fingers crossed that Stampede manages to progress the series and bring back members of the original cast.
Ron Underwood was the initial director for the popular Tremors film series, with a script penned by S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock. The first movie stars Kevin Bacon alongside Michael Gross, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, and country artist Reba McEntire. So far, it’s only Michael Gross who has appeared in every film (and TV series) to date. We really hope that Stampede secures his participation as well, given his significant role in the franchise.
Time will reveal whether or not this recent effort to involve Bacon once more in the series is successful, as both Stampede Entertainment and Bacon seem open to it. With this positive attitude, we remain tentatively hopeful.
