Tron: Ares confirms superstar composers to replace Daft Punk

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for innovative soundtracks, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when I heard that Nine Inch Nails would be scoring Tron: Ares. You see, I was one of those who marveled at the synth-heavy beats of Daft Punk in Tron: Legacy, a score that elevated an already captivating film.

Disney revealed that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, famously recognized as Nine Inch Nails, have been appointed as the composers for the forthcoming science fiction film sequel titled “Tron: Ares.”

People often emulate the style of the acclaimed French duo Daft Punk, who composed the soundtrack for the critically-acclaimed 2010 movie Tron: Legacy. This score was highly praised and considered a major contribution to the success of the popular film.

Yet, any possibility of their comeback was firmly dismissed as Daft Punk announced their disbandment in 2021, causing concern among Tron enthusiasts about whether the upcoming film would retain its powerful auditory personality.

Those fears should be quashed by the naming of Nine Inch Nails, as the industrial rock specialists are known for their blistering soundtracks to The Social Network, HBO’s Watchmen and, most recently, sports drama Challengers, among other projects.

At D23 tonight, I had an exhilarating moment when the duo stealthily emerged, shrouded in mystery. The air grew thick with anticipation as their participation in the upcoming project was unveiled, not through words, but by a brilliant, pulsing red laser etching their name onto a colossal LED screen, adding an electrifying touch to the night.

More to follow.
