Tron: Ares Will Be “Grittier” and “More Industrial” Than Fans Ever Anticipated

As a movie enthusiast with a penchant for sci-fi and a soft spot for the TRON franchise, I must admit, the announcement of TRON: Ares has me buzzing like a light cycle on The Grid. With a shift from Daft Punk’s electronic beats to Nine Inch Nails’ industrial rock, this sequel promises to deliver a grittier, more grounded experience – a stark contrast that excites me immensely.

In the upcoming season, the TRON series is set to return following another extended break, with the release of “TRON: Ares” in cinemas, 15 years since Joseph Kosinski’s “TRON: Legacy”. This time around, director Joachim Rønning is leading the charge, and the narrative will deviate significantly from The Grid. “TRON: Ares” promises to delve into a program’s journey into the real world, making for a more realistic and earthbound expansion of the TRON universe.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but notice the striking transformation in the musical composition for the TRON: Ares soundtrack compared to its predecessor. While Daft Punk crafted the captivating, all-electronic score for TRON: Legacy, they’ve swapped out the synths for guitars and amps with the inclusion of Nine Inch Nails, spearheaded by band pioneers and Academy Award-winning composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, for this new installation.

In an interview with Empire magazine, Rønning discussed the shift in music composition from Daft Punk to Nine Inch Nails for the sequel. This change, he said, creates a completely fresh atmosphere for a type of TRON unlike any we’ve experienced before.

According to Rønning, the music for this edition will have a rougher, more mechanical feel, thanks to Nine Inch Nails. He explained that it’s crucial for him to differentiate The Grid from reality, and Nine Inch Nails fits perfectly into the new Tron universe we are developing.

The director further mentioned that the earthy feel and raw tunes would eventually help in narrating a deeply personal, human tale.

He mentioned that what he consistently seeks in any narrative is a powerful, emotional heart. He hinted that this movie might evoke stronger emotions than viewers anticipate, as it delves into the price we pay for our humanity.
