As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for the TRON franchise and a penchant for rogue-lite games, I must say my heart skipped a beat upon hearing about TRON: Catalyst! With its striking visuals reminiscent of the original TRON films and the intriguing gameplay elements from Hades, it’s like Disney, Devolver Digital, and Bithell Games decided to brew a cocktail tailored just for me.
Devolver Digital’s subsidiary Big Fan Games, in partnership with Bithell Games, have unveiled a fresh installment for Disney’s TRON series – TRON: Catalyst. This upcoming title is slated for release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. In this game, players embody Exo, who wields a powerful ability called the Glitch to overthrow the rulers of the Arq Grid. Take a peek at the debut trailer below.
For those who played TRON: Identity last year, the environment should feel comfortable. But instead of focusing solely on last year’s gameplay aspects, this version emphasizes isometric combat. Your weapon in this game is the Identity Disc, which you can deflect off enemies and use to parry attacks. In addition to combat with the Disc, you’ll also engage in Light Cycle battles, and gain new abilities by collecting Data Shards.
According to the announcement, TRON: Catalyst appears to incorporate rogue-lite features, where unexpected “glitches” result in time loops within the system. As you traverse the Arq Grid, new paths and concealed areas will become accessible. If it resembles Hades, prepare for a dynamic storyline that evolves based on the outcomes of various playthroughs.
TRON: Catalyst is out in 2025. Stay tuned for more details on its gameplay in the meantime.
