As a dedicated fan who has followed both True Blood and What We Do In The Shadows with unwavering enthusiasm, this latest crossover event left me utterly thrilled! It felt like I was witnessing Eric Northman, one of my favorite characters from True Blood, making a surprise appearance in the hilarious world of What We Do In The Shadows. Alexander Skarsgård’s portrayal of the mysterious vampire was as captivating as ever, even with the subtle nods to his iconic True Blood look.
If you assumed Eric Northman, from the TV show True Blood, wouldn’t make a comeback since 2014, you’d be wrong. Alexander Skarsgård recently appeared in an episode of FX’s What We Do In The Shadows titled “Come Out and Play”. Although his character isn’t explicitly named Eric Northman in the show (possibly due to copyright issues between True Blood, an HBO series, and this FX program), he strongly resembles him, dressed in black, even sporting a leather coat reminiscent of Eric’s Sheriff look from True Blood.
In this particular scene, Baron (played by Doug Jones) convenes the New York vampires to reestablish authority. After delivering a speech, he queries the group if they have any inquiries. The one who dares to ask first meets an unfortunate fate as their head is crushed. Interestingly, Skarsgård’s vampire also raised his hand initially but quickly withdrew it. When questioned if he had a question, the visibly frightened vampire assures Baron that his query has already been answered.
Skarsgård seemed to enjoy tinkering with his look during What We Do in the Shadows. In a playful remark, the actor quipped that he can’t remember filming this particular episode and pinned the blame on Matt Berry’s character, Dr. Laszlo Cravensworth.
In a statement (via The Wrap), Skarsgård admitted that he can’t remember filming the specific episode because Dr. Laszlo Cravensworth hypnotized him during the wrap party. However, upon waking up, Skarsgåard developed an intense attraction towards Dr. Cravensworth and was captivated by his exceptional humor, charisma, and intelligence. As a result, he established a YouTube fan page for Dr. Cravensworth, titled ‘Because you’re Cravens-worth it.’ He encourages everyone to like, follow, and subscribe.
Actor Alexander Skarsgård played the role of Eric Northman, the Vampire Sheriff over Area 5 in Louisiana, which encompassed Bon Temps town, in the TV show “True Blood”. This character was a significant one throughout the entire seven-season run of the series and was last depicted in the final episode titled “Thank. You”, where he was shown seated on his throne at Fangtasia, his club.
In a recent episode of “What We Do in the Shadows”, Evan Rachel Wood, known for her role as Sophie-Anne Leclerq, Vampire Queen of Louisiana on “True Blood”, made an appearance. This isn’t the first time cast members from “True Blood” have graced our screens on this show. Many other actors who have portrayed vampires in various films and series have also been featured. Wesley Snipes, famously known as Blade, even appeared via Skype in one episode. The show has a tradition of featuring intriguing guest stars, a trend that continues with Alexander Skarsgård’s appearance. As “What We Do in the Shadows” enters its final season and prepares for its last two episodes, it will be exciting to see who else from the world of vampire actors and guest stars might make an appearance before the series ends.
On Monday, you can catch the show “What We Do in the Shadows” on FX. The final episode will air on December 16th. Meanwhile, the entire series of “True Blood” is available to stream on Max.
