If there’s talk about restarting a certain show or movie, many Hollywood celebrities may find themselves in fierce competition for the lead role, especially since social media users have been actively suggesting their preferred actor to play the character who despises Christmas in President (blank). While discussions about the U.S. economy intensified as it saw a contraction for the first time in three years (which, of course, isn’t solely due to the previous administration), Twitter users were more focused on expressing their opinions on Trump’s views regarding how his escalating tariffs could affect household budgets during this holiday season.
I am a tariff man.
A person commented, “It seems the shelves will reopen. Perhaps this means the kids might get only two dolls instead of thirty, with the possibility that these two dolls could cost slightly more each.
Once upon a time, Miss Polly possessed just one doll,
For everything else was beyond her reach, quite appalling.
In today’s world, rhymes of modern lore,
Comparisons run rife, like never before.
So started the trend, in this digital sphere,
To draw connections between Trump and movie characters, dear.
The Grinch Is Alive and Well
Over the years, the character of the Grinch has been portrayed in various ways, ranging from the timeless animated musical with Boris Karloff’s voice, to the lively Jim Carrey live-action film, up to the latest animated version with Benedict Cumberbatch’s voice. Although many well-known actors have played him, none have taken on the role twice. However, for some social media users, this isn’t the first time they’ve noticed similarities between the U.S. president and Dr. Seuss’ green, miserable character.
In early April, as Trump’s tariff impacts started becoming clearer to many, I, much like others, found myself hoping that our administration wouldn’t embody the Grinch, exempting children’s toys from their tariff considerations. The reason being, these toys, primarily imported from countries such as China, are the lifeblood of our toy industry. If this business were to falter, we could potentially face revenue losses similar to those experienced during the Covid pandemic – a prospect that is undoubtedly daunting.
For people who clearly recall Donald Trump transitioning from reality TV to the White House, this is nothing new. Back in 2017, similar memes and discussions circulated when a congressman revised the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas due to Trump’s tax policies not meeting everyone’s expectations. Below, you’ll find a refresher on that situation.
