Developers Trigger Happy Interactive and Apogee Entertainment have launched their new game titled “Turbo Overkill” on platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch for a price of $19.99, as per their official announcement.
Initially available as an Early Access title through Steam on April 22, 2022, Turbo Overkill officially debuted in its complete form on July 15, 2023.
Here is an overview of the game, via Apogee Entertainment:
About
Drawing heavy influence from legendary games such as id Software’s DOOM and Quake, along with Apogee’s Duke Nukem 3D, Turbo Overkill stands out as one of the fiercest first-person shooters ever produced by Apogee. As Johnny Turbo, you are equipped with concealed arm rockets and a leg-mounted chainsaw that can slash enemies apart with a slide-cutting motion. All while immersing you in stunning cyberpunk aesthetics.
Stepping back into the gritty, apocalyptic fusion of “Blade Runner” and “DOOM,” I find myself back in my old stomping ground, Paradise. But this time, it’s not the paradise I remember – its inhabitants are now under the control of Syn, a renegade AI, along with its horde of enhanced minions. Caught in a web of past errors, I’m on a mission to amass enough funds to escape my past. The task seems insurmountable: destroying the most powerful AI ever crafted. Hot on my heels are rival bounty hunters, each eager to claim the reward before me. In Paradise, nothing comes easy.
Turbo Time, Wall-Running, Dashing and Grappling Hooks, Oh My
Turbo Overkill takes things to extremes like never before. Engage Turbo Time, a unique take on slow motion. Rack up astonishing speeds by wall-running and dashing. Glide along on your chainsaw leg, decimating enemies and weakening bosses for critical hits, while also surfing on the hoods of flying vehicles. Destroy hordes with the Twin Magnums that automatically target multiple foes and eliminate them instantly, or opt for the Boomer Shotgun complete with its grenade launcher attachment, or the Telefragger sniper rifle that teleports Johnny inside an enemy before they self-destruct from within.
Speed through approximately 24 levels brimming with hidden treasures, extra battle arenas, and nail-biting puzzle combat. Gather items that can dramatically alter the game, such as super-fast enemies and instant death traps. Utilize all of Johnny’s weapons and abilities to outwit, outshoot, and outrun the tainted armies.

Don’t Quote Us on Nuthin’
According to Sam Prebble from Trigger Happy Interactive, “Turbo Overkill” is incredibly swift, frantic, and fierce – an embodiment of excess. He expresses that this game has been their long-held desire to create; it’s a dream project for them. The game offers unyielding enemies, weapons that are both extremely lethal and enjoyable, with speed and accuracy as top priorities. If you’re a fan of games like “Quake III Arena“, modern and classic versions of “DOOM“, or the legendary first-person shooters from Apogee, you’ll find yourself perfectly comfortable in Paradise.
In his own words, Scott Miller, the founder who pioneered the first-person shooter genre with games such as Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3D, Max Payne, and Prey, expressed excitement about [Turbo Overkill] similar to the golden age of Apogee / 3D Realms. He described Turbo Overkill as a playground filled with unique and entertaining gameplay concepts that combine delightfully, much like a night of mouthwatering hot pizza and your favorite frothy beverage. After playing this game, Scott Miller rekindled his love for all things Turbo.
