As a die-hard fan of the Turok franchise who’s been eagerly waiting for its return since the early 2000s, I must admit that the announcement of Turok: Origins at The Game Awards last week was a moment I’ve long anticipated, filled with both excitement and apprehension. While the shift to a third-person shooter perspective is indeed unexpected, it’s not entirely unfamiliar territory for Saber Interactive, who’ve demonstrated their knack for handling well-known IPs respectfully.
For more than 15 years, we’ve eagerly awaited a resurrection of the Turok franchise, but when Saber Interactive unveiled a fresh installment at The Game Awards last week titled Turok: Origins, it caught many off guard. This is because not only is it a new addition to the dinosaur-hunting series, but also because it will be a third-person shooter – a departure from the first-person perspective that has characterized the franchise in previous iterations.
Regardless of the unique twist that Turok: Origins brings to the table with its third-person view and cooperative gameplay, as confirmed by Game Director Jesus Iglesias, it’s intended to be a faithful reboot of the classic Turok series.
At Saber, there’s one skill we excel at – handling games based on popular IPs with reverence, and that includes the game Turok: Origins. This was stated during an interview with GamesRadar.
Iglesias further mentioned that, much like Saber Interactive did for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 earlier this year, the team plans to offer an engaging storyline and top-notch single-player and cooperative gameplay with Turok: Origins.
In the words of a representative, “Players of Space Marine 2 have been exposed to the top-notch quality and production values Saber is known for, which are evident in Turok: Origins too. We’re aiming to captivate players with an engaging storyline and exceptional single player and cooperative gameplay, much like what fans of Space Marine 2 enjoyed.
It’s still uncertain if Turok: Origins will achieve the same level of success as Space Marine 2 did in its intended goals, but the idea of reimagining a long-idle franchise and giving it fresh vitality is certainly enticing.
Development on the game titled “Turok: Origins” is currently underway for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers. As of now, there’s no specified release date or timeframe that has been disclosed.
