As a huge fan of movies and someone who closely follows the box office numbers, I can’t help but be impressed by the exceptional performance of “Twisters” at the domestic box office this weekend. I was initially expecting it to open between $40 million and $55 million, but its opening day gross of $32.2 million already surpassed my expectations. With a projected weekend gross of $74 million, it’s now challenging “Despicable Me 4” for the fourth-highest-grossing weekend spot of 2024.
During the summer season, box office revenues are climbing higher and higher. Currently, “Inside Out 2” holds the title as the most successful film of the year. However, an array of movies have achieved success in recent times. “Twisters,” for instance, has been a standout this weekend. Initially predicted to earn between $40 million and $55 million during its domestic debut, it has already made $32.2 million on its opening day. Based on current trends, “Variety” reports that the film’s opening weekend could reach an impressive $74 million.
Twisters is vying for the fourth-best weekend box office earnings in 2024 against Despicable Me 4, which brought in $75 million during its debut – keep in mind, though, that this animated film had a Wednesday release due to the July 4th holiday. The top three domestic opening weekends of the year so far are held by Inside Out 2 ($154 million), Dune: Part Two ($82 million), and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ($80 million).
As a longtime Marvel fan and moviegoer, I’m genuinely excited about the upcoming clash between “Twisters” and “Deadpool 3” this weekend. Having grown up with the original Deadpool films, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine. With all the hype surrounding this highly-anticipated threequel, it’s predicted to open with an impressive $160 million to $165 million at the box office – potentially dethroning “Inside Out 2” as the highest-grossing film of the year.

This includes Brandon Perea known for “Nope,” Sasha Lane from “American Honey,” Daryl McCormack starring in “Peaky Blinders,” Kiernan Shipka recognized for “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Nik Dodani notable in “Atypical,” David Corenswet acclaimed for his role as Superman, Katy O’Brian appearing in “Love Lies Bleeding,” and the Golden Globe-winning actress Maura Tierney from “Beautiful Boy.”
