Twisters Star Glen Powell Confirms He Hasn't Met With Marvel or DC Despite Rumors

As a die-hard fan of all things entertainment, I can’t help but marvel at the meteoric rise of Glen Powell! From his electrifying performance as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick to his charming turn as Jack in Anyone But You, this guy has been unstoppable. The man even managed to make me shed a tear or two (okay, maybe more than a few) in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man!

Glen Powell has had an incredibly busy and successful couple of years. He played a significant role in the blockbuster hit “Top Gun: Maverick,” followed by starring alongside Sydney Sweeney in the popular movie, “Anyone But You.” This year alone, he captured everyone’s attention in Richard Linklater’s Netflix film, “Hit Man.” The summer saw him winning hearts again in the movie “Twisters.” Just last month, news broke about a remake of “Backdraft,” with Powell set to star. However, it seems unlikely that we’ll see him joining DC or Marvel any time soon, as he recently dismissed rumors that he has met with those studios during an interview on the podcast “The Discourse” on The Playlist.

Powell shared that he’s never received a call from DC or Marvel, but he’s a big fan of their work. He recently enjoyed watching Deadpool and Wolverine. According to him, the job done by Shawn and Ryan with that movie was extraordinary and full of fun for viewers. He supports them in their endeavors and admires their work.

“I believe the work of James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios will greatly benefit their business. Honestly, I can hardly wait to see what they produce. In essence, I wholeheartedly support them. I’m quite fond of their films.”

Apart from “Backdraft,” which features Powell, there’s another remake with his name attached. Before he may don the firefighter uniform, Powell is slated to feature in Edgar Wright’s reimagining of Stephen King’s “The Runner” (informal phrasing), originally titled “The Running Man.” The story was previously adapted into a film in 1987, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead. In an interview with IndieWire, Powell shared his intentions to return to the University of Texas this fall to complete his degree in Spanish & Early American history while simultaneously commencing work on “The Running Man.”

“Powell clarified that he won’t be attending regular classes with other students since he’s going to be busy filming ‘The Running Man’ in the fall. He will, however, return to complete his studies but will only come back for proctored exams. The university is accommodating him by allowing distance learning and occasional in-person attendance through Zoom or similar platforms. So, he’ll be in London most of the time, but will return to campus a few times each semester for his proctored exams. Edgar has been understanding about letting Powell finish his degree amidst the production of his big movie.”
