Twisters Surpasses Twister at Domestic Box Office

As a long-time fan of disaster films and particularly fond of the original 1996 “Twister”, I must say that I am absolutely thrilled by the success of its follow-up, “Twisters“. The box office numbers alone are enough to make one’s heart race like a tornado. It’s truly awe-some (pun intended) to see how this sequel has managed to surpass its predecessor in earnings, proving that sometimes, the storm returns even stronger.

Last month saw the theater release of “Twisters”, which served as a follow-up to the 1996 disaster film classic, also titled “Twister”. The movie had a strong debut at the box office, surpassing initial expectations that it would earn between $40 Million and $55 million. Instead, it garnered an impressive $80.5 million in its opening weekend. As of now, more than a month since its release, “Twisters” has overtaken the domestic box office earnings of “Twister”, which ended its run in 1996 with $241.6 million. Currently, “Twisters” has made $241.7 million in North America, leaving it a small margin away from surpassing its predecessor’s total earnings. With a return to 4DX theaters scheduled for August 30th, there is a good chance that “Twisters” will exceed the earnings of “Twister”.

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t contain my excitement when I share that during the premiere week of Twisters, the majority of 4DX screenings for the movie were snapped up lightning-fast at Regal locations offering that premium format. James Lamar, the Film Head at Regal, expressed this in a statement: “Even with the bustling summer film calendar, we spotted an opening to extend the run of Twisters by seven more days in 4DX and present fans with a fresh way to immerse themselves in the original film.”

4DX theaters will screen the movies starting from August 30th until September 5th. Meanwhile, you can now watch “Twisters” on demand video services.

What Is Twisters About?

Twisters follows Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Anthony Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better. As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler, and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.

In the movie “Twisters,” directed by Lee Isaac Chung (known for “Minari”), we find an impressive cast that includes Brandon Perea, who starred in “Nope,” Sasha Lane from “American Honey,” Daryl McCormack of “Peaky Blinders,” Kiernan Shipka, best known for “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Nik Dodani from “Atypical,” David Corenswet (famous as Superman), Katy O’Brian (from “Love Lies Bleeding”), and the Golden Globe winner Maura Tierney (“Beautiful Boy”).

The movie “Twisters” is currently showing in cinemas and will once again be available in 4DX format starting August 30th. Keep an eye out for further box office news.
