The DC Universe teems with extraordinary martial artists, many of whom have earned legendary status in the realm of combat. It’s rare to find someone in this universe who doesn’t know how to fight, but there are a few individuals whose skills outshine even legends like Batman. However, determining an absolute best is futile because story requirements often dictate the winner, and as with real-life fighting, it’s challenging to objectively crown one individual as the best given the numerous variables involved. Nevertheless, there are characters who are generally acknowledged as strong contenders for the top spot. One of these was Lady Shiva, but she met her end. Prior to her demise, she tasked her daughter with seeking out another formidable fighter from the DC Universe, Bronze Tiger.
Lady Shiva’s Legacy Is Tied to Bronze Tiger
In the heat of a fierce clash against the Unburied, I – Lady Shiva – made an ultimate sacrifice, buying precious time for Cassandra Cain to flee. Moments before my ironically heroic demise, I bestowed upon my daughter the truth about our lineage, a secret I’d never shared with any other soul. In preparation for such an eventuality, I penned a diary to be sent to her if I should perish. The book contained the hidden history that had always remained concealed, tracing back to times before my consciousness even existed.
My family had long been hunted by relentless pursuers, their search dating back to before I could recall, even before my birth. Tragically, the Blood managed to eliminate my parents, leaving only Shiva and my sister, Mei-Xing, alive. We miraculously escaped with our lives and were taken in by a secluded mountain village where we honed our skills and readied ourselves for the day when our elusive captors would return to claim us.
In the end, the Blood pursued them relentlessly, uncovering their hidden identities and launching an attack on their village. Amidst the chaos of battle, the leader of the Blood disclosed that the sisters were born from a taboo love affair, making him their cousin. Once more compelled to escape, the young women had to forsake their names and elude capture, readying themselves for the prophesied confrontation with the Blood. They roamed the globe, honing their combat skills and vanquishing any who dared oppose them. Among these adversaries were Richard Dragon and Ben Turner, renowned Kung Fu warriors from DC Comics. After the sisters overpowered them during their initial encounter, the quartet formed a quick bond and even embarked on kung fu comic adventures of the 1970s together. Mei-Xing and Ben began to develop feelings for each other, kindling a romantic relationship, but Shiva remained consumed by her quest for vengeance, unwilling to quench her burning desire for retribution.
As I sat in the dimly lit cinema, I found myself engrossed in a tale where the protagonist, Shiva, maintained an air of mystery, keeping her inner circle at arm’s length, even from her closest confidant, Mei. One of her most closely guarded secrets was that for years, a mysterious figure had been tracking Shiva, never showing any interest in her sister.
One fateful night, Shiva crossed paths with this elusive man, who turned out to be none other than David Cain, the man destined to father Cassandra. He claimed he wished to liberate Shiva, allowing her to embrace her true identity, but at a heavy cost – the removal of anything that held her back.
In the blink of an eye, Cain took Mei-Xing’s life while Shiva was away, and both Shiva and Ben vowed retribution. This tragic event set Shiva on the path to becoming the world’s most lethal assassin, and perhaps inadvertently steered Ben towards becoming the Bronze Tiger.
Now, Cassandra finds herself on a mission to reconcile with Cain, as she seeks vengeance for her mother’s death and safeguards her own life. It’s a tangled web of secrets, love, and vengeance that promises to keep us on the edge of our seats.
Batgirl and Bronze Tiger Will Be an Unstoppable Duo
Shiva is renowned as one of the world’s most exceptional martial artists, having lost only to a select few individuals under fair circumstances. Apart from Batgirl and Bronze Tiger, very few can truly match her skills. The combination of these two makes them possibly the strongest martial arts duo since the four-member team consisting of Shiva and Bronze Tiger during their youth. It’s worth noting that Bronze Tiger shared a romantic past with Cass’s aunt, and he was also one of Cain’s trainers who molded her into an ultimate weapon. Despite their complicated history, they will need to join forces if they hope to have any chance of thwarting the Unburied’s destructive campaign across the globe.
Thus far, the current Batgirl series has been bursting with fantastic action sequences and martial arts stunts, and the fact that Batgirl is partnering up with one of the best indicates that things are bound to get even more thrilling. I can hardly wait to discover what mind-blowing action they’ll include in the next issue, as well as uncovering more secrets about Cass’s mother and her true lineage. The moment of confrontation is drawing near, but will the Unburied exact their vengeance or will Batgirl and Bronze Tiger deploy their remarkable abilities to quash them before they can act? We’ll simply have to stay tuned to find out.
