Movies produced by DreamWorks and Illumination have consistently achieved streaming success when they join Netflix’s collection. Films like “Despicable Me,” “Shrek,” and “Trolls” (to name a few) have been massive hits on Netflix in recent times, and now, two more outstanding films from the DreamWorks stable are continuing this trend.
The initial two installments from DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon series are now available on Netflix, and predictably, they’ve been resonating strongly with viewers. The original 2010 release of How to Train Your Dragon and the sequel from 2014, How to Train Your Dragon 2, continue to stand out as some of DreamWorks‘ most acclaimed and well-received films. Given their enduring popularity, it’s no wonder Netflix users are adding these titles to their watch lists.
On Monday’s Netflix Top 10 Movies chart, both movies from the “How to Train Your Dragon” series have found a place among the most-watched films available on the platform. Specifically, “How to Train Your Dragon 2” is currently ranked sixth overall, while its prequel holds the seventh spot.
The surge in popularity of “How to Train Your Dragon” on Netflix might be linked to the upcoming live-action version of the series within the franchise, which bodes well for Universal Pictures. Following the conclusion of the animated trilogy with “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” in 2019, director Dean DeBlois is now working on a live-action reinterpretation of the franchise.
The real-life adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon” will premiere in cinemas on June 13th, and Universal unveiled a fresh trailer for the movie during the Super Bowl on Sunday night. This has sparked an unprecedented level of anticipation for the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise. Since the first two movies are accessible on Netflix, families have been enjoying multiple viewings before the live-action film’s release.
In the transition from animated to live-action for the “How to Train Your Dragon” series, only one original voice actor, Gerard Butler, who played Stoick, the viking leader and Hiccup’s father, is returning. The rest of the cast will be newcomers, with Mason Thames portraying Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Nick Frost, and Julian Dennison joining the team. Gerard Butler reprises his role in the live-action film.
