After the acclaimed premiere of “Beauty of Black“, Tyler Perry’s upcoming series has now confirmed its release date. The next installment from Perry on Netflix veers into politics as the esteemed movie producer introduces his new comedy, titled “She the People“.
According to its official announcement, similar to other shows, the first season of “She the People” by Perry will be divided into 16 episodes across two segments. The premiere for Part 1 is set on May 22 through a streaming service, with Part 2 slated for August 14. Netflix has also unveiled fresh images from the politically-themed comedy starring Terri J. Vaughn, who previously collaborated with Perry in “Daddy’s Little Girls” and “Meet the Browns”.
The show “She the People” follows Antoinette Dunkerson, portrayed by Vaughn, as she triumphantly wins her bid for Lieutenant Governor. However, this political victory turns out to be a greater challenge than she anticipated, as she navigates success under a sexist and condescending governor while maintaining harmony within her family amidst increased public scrutiny. The series, rated TV-MA, features Vaughn alongside Jo Marie Payton from “Meet the Browns”, Drew Olivia Tillman from “This Is Us”, and Tré Boyd from “House of Payne. Perry and Vaughn serve as executive producers on “She the People”, along with Niya Palmer, who co-created the series with Perry, and Keisha Lance Bottoms, a former mayor of Atlanta and advisor to the 46th U.S. President, Joe Biden.
The launch of “She the People” is happening next, as it follows in the footsteps of “Beauty in Black,” which achieved success during its first season. This season’s premiere last October led to both parts ranking high on Netflix charts, even though they received mixed reviews from critics. A week after Part 2 of “Beauty in Black” was released this March, …
