Ubisoft employees are rattled over the potential for mass layoffs—and they have every reason to be.
On Thursday, gaming company Ubisoft revealed they’re establishing a new game-focused subsidiary in collaboration with Chinese tech behemoth Tencent. This joint venture will serve as a home to Ubisoft’s prized video game series, such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six , in addition to certain development studios. Although the official statement presents this as the beginning of an exciting new era, insider responses indicate that the main aspect of this move that stands out is the apprehension it has caused for Ubisoft’s ongoing workforce.
