Following recent rumors of Ubisoft potentially being acquired, the company has now revealed that they will be bringing in consultants to examine various strategic possibilities, as reported by CNBC. In a statement, Ubisoft mentioned that these advisors will investigate “strategic and financial options aimed at maximizing value for shareholders.
Ubisoft clarifies more information about these advisors, explaining that they’ll be supervised by impartial members from their Board of Directors.
According to a statement from Ubisoft, the independent directors on their board will supervise this process. If and when a transaction comes to fruition, Ubisoft will provide updates to the market as required by the relevant laws.
Yves Guillemot, both co-founder and CEO, emphasized again that Ubisoft intends to capitalize on the numerous brands and properties they possess. “We firmly believe there are multiple ways to extract value from Ubisoft’s assets and franchises,” he declared in a statement.
In light of the situation, I’m thrilled to share that the release date for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” has been moved from its initial Valentine’s Day launch (February 14) to March 20 instead. This epic game is set to drop on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. I can hardly wait!
A report in December suggested that the Guillemot family, who are Ubisoft’s founders and majority shareholders, were negotiating a possible takeover of the company with Tencent. During these negotiations, it was mentioned that the family wished to retain control of the company even after the acquisition. However, Tencent is said to be aiming for more influence over Ubisoft, including having a say in future decisions made by its board of directors.
The current negotiations about Tencent acquiring a larger share of Ubisoft appear to be at an impasse, as Tencent seems content with its 10% ownership and wants Ubisoft to agree to the terms. On the other hand, Guillemot is considering taking Ubisoft private by collaborating with minority stakeholder AJ Investments.
Lately, Ubisoft has faced criticism from gamers for what seems like a drop in game quality in their recent releases. However, they are optimistic that their upcoming major title, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”, might address these concerns.
Initially slated for release in November, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” was delayed due to the poor commercial reception of “Star Wars Outlaws.” The decision was made to postpone the launch to guarantee a top-quality game.
The organization has revealed that it will be closing down its free-to-play multiplayer shooter game called XDefiant, with the servers scheduled to cease operation by June 3. During this interim period, previously planned content for the game was made available, including the release of the game’s final season content back in December. This update introduced not only various new features but also three new playable factions and 13 new maps.
