Ubisoft's Driver Series Is Apparently Still Alive

As a longtime fan of the Driver series, I’m thrilled to hear that Ubisoft is working on new projects related to this iconic franchise. The original Driver game released back in 1999 was a groundbreaking experience for me, and the subsequent titles only built upon its success. I fondly remember playing late into the night, mastering the art of driving and evading law enforcement in the open world of Driver 2 and Driver 3.

I’m thrilled to share that according to recent updates, I’m part of the passionate fan base eagerly awaiting new additions to the Driver series! This iconic franchise, which first graced our screens in 1999 with the original game, has had an impressive run with titles like Driver 2, Driver 3, Driver: Parallel Lines, and Driver: San Francisco. After the release of Driver: San Francisco in 2011, there was a noticeable pause from Ubisoft regarding further developments for the franchise. However, it’s now clear that the series hasn’t been put to rest entirely. The previously reported TV adaptation, unfortunately, won’t be moving forward. Nevertheless, we can look forward to new projects in the works at Ubisoft for the beloved Driver series!

Ubisoft’s representative, Game File, confirmed that the planned Driver TV series on Binge is now cancelled. The project, which had been given the green light in 2021, encountered unexpected hurdles when the production company behind it disbanded in early 2024. Although this development means the show will not be produced, Ubisoft reassured fans that the Driver video game franchise is not being retired.

A Ubisoft representative shared with the publication that the collaboration on the “Binge for a Driver” series with Binge is no longer progressing. However, they are currently focusing their efforts on intriguing projects within the franchise and look forward to revealing further details soon.

It’s intriguing to learn that Ubisoft is reportedly working on new Driver projects after 13 years since the release of Driver: San Francisco. This game was a success when it came out, with sales performing better than most titles in the series. Critics also praised it as the best entry outside of the original installment. Considering its strong reception, it was unexpected that a sequel didn’t materialize. However, recent developments suggest that Ubisoft might be considering creating a new addition to the Driver franchise.

Are you excited about the prospect of a new installment in the Driver game franchise? What features and elements would you hope to see in a modern-day Driver game? Share your ideas with me, and don’t forget to join the conversation on social media using @MooreMan12.
