2025’s January was akin to a dream come true for PC enthusiasts, or so it seemed. However, NVIDIA’s release of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 turned the situation sour, and there seems to be no immediate relief in sight. This pessimistic outlook is echoed by one of the UK’s leading retailers specializing in such products.
In a flash, the internet stocks of the two graphics cards became scarce. Regrettably, amusing stories surfaced about people queuing at actual stores, only to find out that merely four RTX 5090 units were available.
Now, Overclockers UK (via Tom’s Hardware) has delivered the bleak news.
31st January 2025 Update on RTX 50 Series Stock
We wanted to share an update about our RTX 50 Series stock:
The RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080 have both been sold out immediately following their launch, with pre-orders ceasing due to extraordinary demand.
Given the overwhelming interest in these products, we were only able to fulfill a limited number of pre-orders. We understand that many of you may be disappointed, but please know that our team is working diligently to restock these items as soon as possible.
Stay tuned for updates on the RTX 50 Series and thank you for your continued support!
You should know that it might take up to 16 weeks for the RTX 5090 stock to get restocked, while the RTX 5080 could take as long as 6 weeks. Previously placed pre-orders are currently being processed in a queue, and we’re not taking any new pre-orders until all existing ones have been fulfilled and there’s more clarity on the availability of these items.
It’s true that the timeframe of 3-16 weeks is quite broad, indicating a significant degree of uncertainty surrounding the situation. On one hand, this wide range may seem dismal, but on the other, it underscores the unpredictable nature of the entire project. Frankly, this launch has been nothing short of a catastrophe, and I can’t help but wonder why NVIDIA decided to proceed with it in the first place.
Which party reaps the advantages here? Since NVIDIA has produced only a limited number of these GPUs, it’s unlikely Jensen Huang will be seen diving into a pile of money like Scrooge McDuck. Is it the advantage of being first on the market or simply an overconfidence and disregard for consumers’ needs?
It’s truly shameful now that crypto miners who hoard hardware for scalping aren’t our adversaries anymore, yet their actions remain appalling. Unfortunately, AMD, a competitor, seems to have missed a prime chance to profit from this situation, as the latest Radeon graphics cards are nowhere in sight.
For now, I’d suggest taking a break. We’ll keep you updated on when and where to make purchases, but until we tackle the current stock problems, isn’t it better to avoid the hassle and potential stress?
